Determination of X-ray mass attenuation coefficients using HPGe detector

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2010
A detail analysis of a method to determine the mass attenuation coefficient, mu(m), of low energy X-rays employing HPGe X-ray detector and radioactive sources is described. This method incorporates all the suggestions made by Creagh and Hubbell. An optimum distance is set under the broad beam as well as good geometry arrangement.

X-Ray Mass Attenuation Coefficient of Silicon: Theory versus Experiment

Physical Review Letters, 2003
We compare new experimental x-ray total mass attenuation coefficients of silicon obtained with the x-ray extended-range technique (XERT) from 5 to 20 keV with theoretical calculations and earlier experimental measurements over a 5 to 50 keV energy range.

Measurement of atomic number and mass attenuation coefficient in magnesium ferrite

Pramana, 2007
Pure magnesium ferrite sample was prepared by standard ceramic technique and characterized by X-ray diffraction method. XRD pattern revealed that the sample possess single-phase cubic spinel structure. The linear attenuation coefficient (µ), mass attenuation coefficient (µ/ρ), total atomic cross-section (σtot), total electronic cross-section (σele) and

Characterization of Mass Attenuation Coefficients as a Function of Experimental Geometry

Instrumentation Science & Technology, 2015
Mass attenuation coefficients of H2O, PbO, and cellulose were determined using 59.5 keV gamma energies with CdTe and NaI (Tl) detectors at five different source-sample distances. The pencil beam method was used to measure the mass attenuation coefficients. All experimental mass attenuation coefficients were compared with simulated results.

Effect of geometry on mass attenuation coefficient of β-particles

The International Journal of Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1984
Abstract The mass attenuation coefficient of β-particles in aluminum is determined for five different β-emitters covering the end-point energy range from 0.4 to 2.3 MeV adopting two extreme geometries, namely the good geometry setup and the 2π geometry setup.

Mass attenuation coefficients of saccharides for low-energy X-rays

Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 2005
Abstract Mass attenuation coefficients have been measured for mono- and disaccharides at photon energies 5.947, 6.460 and 14.413 keV. The measured values are compared with theoretical calculations. The agreement between experiment and theory is generally within 5%.

A novel method for the determination of x-ray mass attenuation coefficients

International Journal of Radiation Applications and Instrumentation. Part A. Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1991
A new and an accurate method to determine the mass attenuation coefficient, p,,,, of low energy x-rays employing proportional counter and radioactive source is described. This method incorporates all the recent suggestions of Creagh and Hubbell. A rigid good geometry arrangement, the gating of channels of the spectrometer at FWHM position of the ...

Radiation dose estimation and mass attenuation coefficients of cement samples used in Turkey

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2010
Different cement samples commonly used in building construction in Turkey have been analyzed for natural radioactivity using gamma-ray spectrometry. The mean activity concentrations observed in the cement samples were 52, 40 and 324 Bq kg(-1) for (226)Ra, (232)Th and (40)K, respectively. The measured activity concentrations for these radionuclides were
