Center of mass method for exchange bias measurements
Applied Physics Letters, 2006Exchange bias measurement techniques are tested using an Ising model for exchange-coupled bilayer structures. In the presence of hysteresis loop asymmetry, the conventional exchange bias characterization method of measuring the sum of the coercive fields is found to be rather inaccurate if compared to the interface coupling energy.

Body Mass Bias in a Combat Fitness Test
2011Abstract : Allometric theory predicts that, pound for pound, lighter individuals will perform better than heavier individuals on strength and endurance tests. This study evaluated body mass bias as a factor in the U.S. Marine Corps Combat Fitness Test (CFT), a test consisting of movement to contact (Movement), an ammunition can lift (Lift), and ...

Gas Chromatographic/Mass Spectrometric Calibration Bias
Analytical Chemistry, 1996A systematic bias has been observed in the calibration of a number of commercial quadrupole gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric (GC/MS) instruments using conventional internal standard quantification techniques. Response factors between deuterated polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons and selected analytes are presented for a series of calibration ...

Mass Screening for Prostate Cancer and the Bias Relating to Survival Rate
Urologia Internationalis, 2010Since 1981 we have been studying prostate cancer (Pca) by mass screening (MS) in the Gunma Prefecture, Japan. From 1981 to 1990, 9,067 subjects (total 15,451) were examined in connection with this project and 121 subjects were diagnosed as having Pca.

BIA/MS: Interfacing Biomolecular Interaction Analysis with Mass Spectrometry
Analytical Biochemistry, 1997Biomolecular interaction analysis (BIA) which utilizes surface plasmon resonance (SPR) detection of affinity-captured analytes has been interfaced with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI). Femtomole quantities of a peptide, myotoxin a, were detected by direct MALDI analysis of sensor chips used during ...

Body Mass Bias in a Competition of Muscle Strength and Aerobic Power
Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2008Recently, a fitness competition called the Pump and Run (PR) has been popularized. Composed of 2 events, a 5-km road race time (RT) in seconds and a maximal-repetition bench press (BPR) with resistance based on a percentage of body mass (M), the final score (RTadj) equals RT - 30(BPR). From published findings, the authors hypothesized that the PR would
