Enhancing accurate data collection in mass fatality kinship identifications: Lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina

Forensic Science International: Genetics, 2008
A mass fatality DNA identification effort is a complex process in which direct matching and kinship analysis is used for identifying human remains. Kinship DNA identification is an important tool in the identification process in which victim's DNA profiles are compared to the profiles of "known" biologically related reference samples.

Lessons Learned at World Youth Day: Collecting Data and Using Postcards at Mass Gatherings

Prehospital and Disaster Medicine, 2010
AbstractIntroduction:World Youth Day (WYD) and its associated activities were held in Sydney, Australia from 15–20 July 2008. The aims of this research were to pilot the use of postcards at mass gatherings and to collect baseline data of how young people (age 16–25 years) identify factors that may affect their health and safety when attending mass ...

Understanding the transfer function of mass transit hub by Automated Fare Collection data

2017 5th IEEE International Conference on Models and Technologies for Intelligent Transportation Systems (MT-ITS), 2017
This paper addresses the issue of diagnosing the transfer function of mass transit hub on the basis of Automated Fare Collection data. A spatial and temporal diagnosis approach is proposed. Our investigation is focused on ‘inter-’ and ‘intra-’ stations diagnoses about passenger flows and facilities.

Evaluation of Composition-Dependent Collection Efficiencies for the Aerodyne Aerosol Mass Spectrometer using Field Data

Aerosol Science and Technology, 2012
In recent years, Aerodyne aerosol mass spectrometers (AMS) have been used in many locations around the world to study the size-resolved, nonrefractory chemical composition of ambient particles. In order to obtain quantitative data, the mass or (number) of particles detected by the AMS relative to the mass (or number) of particles sampled by the AMS, i ...
