Building up the Population III initial mass function from cosmological initial conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We simulate the growth of a Population III stellar system, starting from cosmological initial conditions at z=100. We follow the formation of a minihalo and the subsequent collapse of its central gas to high densities, resolving scales as small as ~ 1 AU.

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Examining News Media References of Mental Illness in the Wake of Mass Shooting Events Occurring in the United States [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In the wake of mass shooting events in the United States, it is generally understood that editorially conservative and liberal news media organizations seemingly present conflicting narratives for the occurrences.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Evolution of the infrared luminosity function and its corresponding dust-obscured star formation rate density out to z  ∼  6

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
We present a new determination of the evolving far-infrared (FIR) galaxy luminosity function (LF) and the resulting inferred evolution of dust-obscured star-formation rate density (ρSFR) out to redshift z ∼ 6.

Parsimonious Charge Deconvolution for Native Mass Spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Charge deconvolution infers the mass from mass over charge (m/z) measurements in electrospray ionization mass spectra. When applied over a wide input m/z or broad target mass range, charge-deconvolution algorithms can produce artifacts, such as false ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Galaxy And Mass Assembly (GAMA): Deconstructing the galaxy stellar mass function by star formation and environment

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Using the equatorial Galaxy and Mass Assembly (GAMA) dataset, we investigate how the low-redshift galaxy stellar mass function (GSMF) varies across different galaxy populations and as a function of halo mass.
