Mass-metallicity relation explored with CALIFA: I. Is there a dependence on the star-formation rate?⋆

open access: yes, 2013
We studied the global and local M-Z relation based on the first data available from the CALIFA survey (150 galaxies). This survey provides integral field spectroscopy of the complete optical extent of each galaxy (up to 2−3 effective radii), with a ...

Sertraline Treatment Can Mimic Niemann‐Pick Type C Biomarker Profile: A Diagnostic Pitfall

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Oxysterols (cholestane‐3β,5α,6β‐triol and 7‐ketocholesterol) and N‐palmitoyl‐O‐phosphocholineserine (PPCS) are sensitive biomarkers for Niemann‐Pick disease type C (NPC) screening. However, false‐positive results occur, with a biomarker profile suggestive of NPC despite the absence of pathogenic variants in genes involved in NPC or ...

CAR T‐Cell Therapy in Neurology: A Scoping Review of Neuro‐Oncology, Autoimmune Diseases & Neurotoxicity

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T‐cell therapy has been investigated in neurological diseases, encompassing both central nervous system malignancies and autoimmune disorders, thereby extending its application beyond hematological cancers.

The Effect of Heat Flux on the Fire and Chemical Properties of Oak Wood (Quercus petraea)

open access: yesBioResources
Selected fire properties of oak wood (mass loss, burning rate, and charring rate) and its chemical composition (extraction substances, lignin, cellulose, hemicellulose) were assessed.

Mass Loss of Evolved Stars : Improving Mass-Loss Rates and Distances

open access: yes
In the final stages of their lives, low to intermediate-mass stars enter the Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) phase, where they experience significant mass loss through dusty stellar winds. This mass loss is pivotal, not only for the chemical enrichment of the interstellar medium, setting the stage for new stars and planets to form, but also in dictating ...

Recurrent Hypothermia and Autonomic Dysfunction Secondary to Shapiro Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 44‐year‐old man presented with recurrent hypothermia, diaphoresis and hypertension. Extensive investigation for infectious, inflammatory, metabolic and endocrine aetiologies was negative. MR scan of the brain demonstrated no lesions but revealed callosal dysgenesis, consistent with Shapiro syndrome.

Energy expenditure in relation to flight speed: what is the power of mass loss rate estimates?

open access: yes, 1998
The relationship between mass loss rate and chemical power in flying birds is analysed with regard to water and heat balance. Two models are presented: the first model is applicable to situations where heat loads are moderate. i.e.
