We have collected literature data on rates of mass-loss \({\dot M}\) for 264 0 through M-type stars and a number of stars of other types. It appears possible to develop log(- \(\left( { - \dot M} \right)\) ) into a series of Chebychev polynomia of the first kind in log Teff and log (L/L⨀) and their cross products.

The Disc Structure and Mass Loss Rates of Be Stars

IRAS observations of four well-known Be stars, α Eri, φ Per, δ Cen and χ Oph are used to derive the density structure of the circumstellar discs and the mass loss rates. α Eri shows no sign of IR excess up to λ = 60 µm, but the other three have excesses in the order of a factor 10 to 70, caused by free-free radiation from the disc.
