MASS REARING OF ANOPHELES CULJCI FACIES

open access: yes, 2007
The present investigation reveals laboratory study on mass rearing of Anopheles ulicifacies. It was revealed that stocking of 400 male and 1200 female pupae on alternate days provide maximum eggs on sustained basis using cycling colony. It was also observed that maximum of 18000 larvae can rear in plastic tray.

Ecology of Rearing: Quality, Regulation, and Mass Rearing

2019
A 1992 list of biological control agents sold commercially in North America listed 105 species of arthropods to control arthropods and 27 species of arthropods to control weeds. This chapter describes some of the goals and constraints of commercial mass production of arthropods, how those goals may conflict with requirements of biological control ...

1.4.2 Laboratory and mass rearing

1997
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses coccid rearing methodologies and procedures inherent in the introduction and subsequent culture or mass rearing of natural enemies. Ideally, the scale insect species selected for culture would include: (1) the target species, (2) the original host of the imported parasites, and (3) some readily cultured ...

Quality Control of Mass Reared Egg Parasitoids

2009
In this chapter we will present methods for determination of the quality of mass reared egg parasitoids. Before we describe quality control guidelines, we will first outline the development of quality control of natural enemies, summarize the basic considerations concerning management of laboratory populations, and discuss obstacles in mass rearing ...

Quality Aspects of Mass-Reared Insects

1977
Control of the quality of mass-produced industrial goods is a matter of survival for any industrial enterprise that has to compete on the market. A constant survey of the market situation provides feedback to the factory where quality, design, or price levels have to be adjusted in order for the company to remain in business.

Behavioral aspects of mass-rearing of insects

Entomophaga, 1972
The present situation and objectives of mass rearing insects are reviewed under the aspect of behavior. The highest degree of “typical” behavior is required in those species that have to compete with their natural counterparts in the field. Selection pressure and conditioning during the process of mass rearing might alter the behavior of the organisms ...

Mass Rearing of Barnacle Cyprids in the Laboratory

Nature, 1960
INTEREST in laboratory experiments on ships' fouling organisms is increasing, yet attempts to rear barnacle larvae to cyprid stage have generally met with only limited success1–6. It therefore seems appropriate to place on record a reliable rearing method, which has been developed here to provide material in connexion with experiments on the use of ...

Mass-Rearing for Sterile Insect Release

2006
As the sterile insect technique (SIT) relies upon released sterile male insects efficiently competing with wild males to mate with wild females, it follows that mass-rearing of insects is one of the principal steps in the process. Mass-rearing for the SIT presents both problems and opportunities due to the increased scale involved compared with rearing

Standardization of Mass Rearing of Mango Leafhoppers

Indian Journal of Entomology
This study involved three predominant mango hopper species viz.: Idioscopus clypealis (Lethierry), Idioscopus nitidulus (Walker), and Amritodus atkinsoni (Lethierry). The nymphs and adults were collected from a mango orchard in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India.
