Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Biology and Mass Rearing Studies of Eucanthecona furcellata Wolf. (HEMIPTERA: PENTATOMIDAE) a Potential Polyphagous Predator and its Effect on Field Population of White Slug Caterpillar, Parasa philepida in Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte, Philippines

open access: yesCORD, 1993
The biology and mass rearing of Eucanthecona furcellata Wolf, a polyphagous predator, was studied under laboratory conditions. The predator has a total life cycle (egg to adult) of 46.25 days. The egg hatched 6 days after laying.

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...

Evaluation of various diets and oviposition substrates for rearing Orius albidipennis Reuter [PDF]

open access: yesنامه انجمن حشره‌شناسی ایران, 2016
A suitable diet and oviposition substrate are two basic needs for successful mass rearing of Orius spp. and this may reduce their production costs. The effect of various foods containing eggs of Ephestia kuehniella and Sitotroga cerealella with various ...

Gravel galore: Impacts of clear-cut logging on salmon and their habitats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Timber harvest may have both direct and indirect effects on salmon, and with a few exceptions those effects result in lowered survival of salmon in their stream habitats compared with unlogged forest (Hicks et al. 1991b).

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Effect of different pollen grains on life table parameters of Neoseiulus barkeri (Acari: Phytoseiidae)

open access: yesPersian Journal of Acarology, 2016
The predatory mite, Neoseiulus barkeri Hughes is one of the most important phytoseiid mites to control phytophagous mites. The effect of different diets such as, corn pollen, walnut pollen, sunflower pollen, date pollen, bee pollen along with the two ...

Effects of Incubation and Rearing Temperatures on Caiman latirostris Growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Different studies found that incubation temperature has an influence on the size of Caiman latirostris hatchlings and determines their gonadal sex. Experimental manipulations revealed that the effects of temperature on growth are independent of sex ...
