Clinical significance of exercise‐induced hypoalgesia in individuals with temporomandibular disorders and neck pain: A clinical trial protocol

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Evidence reports positive effects of neck motor control and aerobic exercises (AEs) to improve pain in individuals with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and neck pain. A single bout of exercise typically leads to an increase in pain thresholds up to 30 min post‐exercise, known as exercise‐induced hypoalgesia (EIH).

The effect of noxious stimulation of the right masseter muscle on single motor unit activity at two sites in the masseter muscle during standardized jaw closing tasks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background and aims: The Pain Adaptation Model and the Vicious Cycle Theory are older theories of the effects of pain on motor activity. While some data sets are consistent with these theories, other data sets are not, and a number of new models (the ...

Myofascial Pain Syndrome: An Update on Clinical Characteristics, Etiopathogenesis, Diagnosis, and Treatment

open access: yesMuscle &Nerve, Volume 71, Issue 5, Page 889-910, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is a chronic regional pain condition characterized by trigger points—hyperirritable spots within taut bands of muscle fibers that cause both localized and referred pain. The pathogenesis, diagnostic criteria, and classification of MPS are still under investigation, which complicates the development of ...

Pain Assessment of Horses With Trigeminal‐Mediated Headshaking (TMHS) at Rest Between Episodes

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 39, Issue 3, May/June 2025.
ABSTRACT Background While there is agreement that horses experience pain during the actual headshaking attacks, there is still a lack of research about the time between the individual episodes in this species. Objectives To evaluate the signs of pain in horses with TMHS at rest in the absence of common triggering factors.

Behavioral correlates of fascicular organization: The confluence of muscle architectural anatomy and function

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 308, Issue 4, Page 1265-1277, April 2025.
Abstract Muscle is a complex tissue that has been studied on numerous hierarchical levels: from gross descriptions of muscle organization to cellular analyses of fiber profiles. In the middle of this space between organismal and cellular biology lies muscle architecture, the level at which functional correlations between a muscle's internal fiber ...

Delay in Diagnosis of a Rare Case of Microcystic Adnexal Carcinoma in a Middle‐Aged Woman

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 4, April 2025.
ABSTRACT MAC is a rare adnexal tumor with nonspecific clinical presentation. Dermatologists should consider the diagnosis of MAC when there is a solitary, longstanding lesion with aberrant clinical behavior supported by typical pathological findings of sweat gland malignant changes.
