Master curve for viscous crack healing

Materials Letters, 2018
A novel method to generalize kinetic data of viscous crack healing in glasses is proposed. The method assumes that crack healing progress is proportional to the healing time, t, and indirect proportional to viscosity, n. This way, crack length and crack width data, normalized to the initial crack length and plotted versus t/n, allow to compare crack ...

Master Curve for the Discrete-Element Method

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2007
The discrete-element method (DEM) is a numerical model consisting of the fundamental laws of motion and a suitable force-displacement model, such as the linear spring-and-dashpot model, as closure. The damping coefficient found in the latter is related to the phenomenological concept of coefficient of restitution of solid particles.

A master curve for tensile properties of thermoplastics

Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics, 1994
AbstractUltimate mechanical properties of polymers can be characterized by a dimensionless Hooke number He ≡ σb/(Eϵb), where σb is the ultimate tensile strength, E the tensile modulus, and ϵb the elongation at break. Hooke numbers are found to be a smooth function of ultimate elongations, independent of the chemical and physical structure of common ...

Master curves for some amorphous polymers

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1964
AbstractMaster curves for polystyrene, poly(methyl acrylate), and poly(methyl methacrylate) in stress relaxation are reported. The method used to obtain a wide range in modulus is to combine torsional creep data for high modulus regions with direct stress relaxation data for low moduli.

Application of the Master Curve in the ASME Code

International Journal of Pressure Vessels and Piping, 2000
Abstract The ASME Code reference toughness curves are based upon an approach that utilizes a material normalizing and indexing parameter, RT NDT . This parameter is based upon the results from Charpy V-notch and drop weight nil-ductility transition temperature tests as defined in the Code. In many cases, this indexing parameter is overly conservative

Microstructural Limits of Applicability of the Master Curve

2002
ASTM Standard Test Method E 1921-97, “Test Method for the Determination of Reference Temperature, T0, for Ferritic Steels in the Transition Range, addresses determination of T0, a fracture toughness reference temperature for ferritic steels having yield strength ranging from 275 to 825 MPa.

Master Equivalence on Arithmetic Curves

We develop a unified framework of detectors for singular fibers in arithmetic families π : X → S := Spec Z, specialized to curves after shrinking to principal opens. Four classical detectors-algebraic/geometric (discriminant, resultant, Jacobian), étale (the bump), and motivic (the defect motive and Euler jump)-and a derived detector via the cotangent ...

Master Curve of Irradiated JRQ Material

2004
One of the key issues concerning the structural integrity of a reactor pressure vessel (RPV) is the effect of neutron irradiation on fracture toughness. To assure the structural integrity of the RPV it is necessary to adjust the pressure-temperature operational limits. These limits depend on the fracture toughness of the RPV material, which is affected

Apparent fracture toughness master curves derived from specimen-size-independent Weibull master curves

1998
The objective of this paper is to show that apparent fracture toughness master curves can be derived from experimental Weibull master curves of materials undergoing an amount of stable crack growth prior to failure, facilitating the identification of the type of toughening mechanisms operating in the investigated materials.
