Laboratory tests of seven rodenticides for the control of Mastomys natalensis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Hygiene, 1979
summaryLaboratory feeding tests were carried out to assess the efficacy of seven rodenticides against Mastomys natalensis. The poisons (warfarin, coumatetralyl, difenacoum, brodifacoum, bromadiolone, calciferol and zinc phosphide) were all toxic at the concentrations normally used against Rattus norvegicus (Berk.), although several were unpalatable ...

An Exploration of DNA Extraction Methods of Fly iDNA for Scalable Biodiversity Monitoring

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 6, November–December 2025.
Metabarcoding of invertebrate‐derived DNA (iDNA) is an excellent tool for assessing terrestrial mammal diversity, but the time and costs associated with sample processing constrain its wider adoption. Our study indicates that the non‐destructive extraction of large pools of entire fly bodies has the potential to streamline and reduce the costs of fly ...

Influence of sugarcane plantations on the population dynamics and community structure of small mammals in a savanna-agricultural landscape

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation, 2019
Conversion of native habitats into agricultural monocultures is a major cause of biodiversity loss favouring a small number of generalist species. Rodents can cause significant declines in crop yield, hence understanding the factors affecting their ...

Comparative Genomic Analysis of Co‐Occurring Hybrid Zones of House Mouse Parasites Pneumocystis murina and Syphacia obvelata Using Genome Polarisation

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 21, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Parasites are expected to hybridise in similar ways to free‐living organisms, although this may be modified by their reduced genome architecture. Recombinant strains and taxa of hybrid origin can be studied in nature where hosts come into secondary contact. Here we apply genome‐wide analysis to parasites from a contact previously characterised

A Mutation‐Based Reverse Vaccinology Approach Considering Variability in Epitopes to Combat Multi‐Strains: A Study Using Glycoprotein of LASV

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 29, Issue 20, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Lassa virus (LASV) remains a persistent threat to public health, and to combat this, various therapeutics have been developed, but their effectiveness is limited due to the virus's strain variability. Therefore, mutation‐based reverse vaccinology approaches were implemented to formulate an epitope‐based vaccine against the LASV, considering ...

The Biological Characteristics and Mouse Model of Lassa Virus From the First Imported Case in China

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 8, August 2025.
This is the first case of Lassa fever being introduced to China. A strain of the Lineage IV LASV was successfully isolated, and genomic and mutation analysis were conducted. Infection models were constructed using BALB/c, C57BL/6, and AG129 mice, which were successfully established.

Effect of Resource Abundance on Woodland Rodents' Demography at Latitudinal Extremes in Europe

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2025.
The study aimed to assess the role of food availability on rodent demography in populations characterised by different dynamics, that is multiannual cycles in Northern European populations and mast‐driven outbreaks in Southern European populations. ABSTRACT Climate change effects on primary productivity are especially evident along altitudinal and ...
