KNN achieved the highest performance (0.989) using the full dataset and 0.988 with ground‐based parameters. EBd and f0 were key contributors to damage, while PGA dominated strong‐motion models. Specificity consistently outperformed sensitivity in earthquake‐parameter models.

Evaluating Seismic Ambient Noise Techniques for Detecting Ice‐Bearing Rocks on the Moon
Abstract One of the primary objectives of upcoming lunar missions is to locate ice‐bearing rocks at the South Pole. While evidence for their presence exists, the exact distribution and quantity remain uncertain. In this study, we evaluate the potential of seismic ambient noise techniques—including seismic interferometry, H/V spectral ratios ...

Abstract Soil nature and water saturation of the near‐surface directly influence land use resilience and sustainability in urban areas facing intense climate forcing and human activity. Seismic methods are widely applied in this context for subsurface characterization and monitoring, but often fall short in delivering joint geological, hydrogeological,

The small‐strain damping ratio plays a crucial role in assessing the response of soil deposits to earthquake‐induced ground motions and general dynamic loading. The damping ratio can theoretically be inverted for after extracting frequency‐dependent Rayleigh wave attenuation coefficients from wavefields collected during surface wave testing.

Valley of Mexico site response from non‐reference site approach
We present a model for Valley of Mexico site response that is referenced to a 30 m time‐averaged shear wave velocity (VS30) of 760 m/s. This reference condition ensures compatibility with regional ground motion models (GMM) for Central America and Mexico (CAM), which were developed from an expanded version of the NGA‐Subduction (NGA‐Sub) database as ...

Establishing Confidence in Surface Wave Determined Soil Profiles [PDF]
Surface waves can be used to determine the shear velocity profile from the ground surface to some depth limited by the spectral band of the seismic source. A number of factors influence the uncertainties of the determined profile.

It is essential to understand the soil characteristics of the subsurface layers for any engineering construction. In difficult terrains like hilly areas, conventional methods of investigation are expensive and difficult to conduct.
