Pangenome comparison via ED strings
IntroductionAn elastic-degenerate (ED) string is a sequence of sets of strings. It can also be seen as a directed acyclic graph whose edges are labeled by strings.

Occlusion Detection of Dense Correspondence Fields Using Motion Statistics and Triangulation
Despite progress made in the accuracy and robustness of the dense matching technique in past years, efficient occlusion detection remains an open problem.

Regularity of colour statistics in explaining colour composition preferences in art paintings
This study explores the role of colour statistics in painting preferences and tests the ‘matching-to-nature’ hypothesis which posits that the preference for the colour composition of paintings depends on the extent to which the paintings resemble the ...

Gradient matching methods for computational inference in mechanistic models for systems biology: a review and comparative analysis [PDF]
Parameter inference in mathematical models of biological pathways, expressed as coupled ordinary differential equations (ODEs), is a challenging problem in contemporary systems biology.

Phototrophs evolved light‐harvesting systems adapted for efficient photon capture in habitats enriched in far‐red radiation. A subset of eukaryotic pigment‐binding proteins can absorb far‐red photons via low‐energy chlorophyll states known as red forms.

Matching with shift for one-dimensional Gibbs measures [PDF]
We consider matching with shifts for Gibbsian sequences. We prove that the maximal overlap behaves as $c\log n$, where $c$ is explicitly identified in terms of the thermodynamic quantities (pressure) of the underlying potential.

Rad27/FEN1 prevents accumulation of Okazaki fragments and ribosomal DNA copy number changes
The budding yeast Rad27 is a structure‐specific endonuclease. Here, the authors reveal that Rad27 is crucial for maintaining the stability of the ribosomal RNA gene (rDNA) region. Rad27 deficiency leads to the accumulation of Okazaki fragments and changes in rDNA copy number.

Partial identification in the statistical matching problem
The statistical matching problem involves the integration of multiple datasets where some variables are not observed jointly. This missing data pattern leaves most statistical models unidentifiable. Statistical inference is still possible when operating under the framework of partially identified models, where the goal is to bound the parameters rather
