A Chaining Analogue to Delayed Matching to Sample
The Psychological Record, 1980Pigeons were trained on an analogue to a delayed matching-to-sample procedure requiring explicit, sample-specific, mediating responses during the delay. Each trial consisted of a three-link chain. The first and third links of the chain were the sample and choice components respectively of matching to sample.

Symbolic Matching-to-Sample by Pigeons
Psychological Reports, 1974Pigeons were given 4 sessions, 90 reinforcers per session, in which the center one of three response keys was illuminated with red and green light. 40 responses on the center key produced side keys displaying white vertical and horizontal lines on black backgrounds. Red was “symbolically” matched by responding to the vertical lines and green by choice

Anticipating the Correct Matching Response in a Second-Order Matching-to-Sample Task
Psychological Reports, 2003A study was designed to evaluate the effects of anticipating the matching response on acquisition and transfer of a second-order matching-to-sample task. 40 college students of both sexes were assigned to different anticipation procedures that involved several verbal descriptions of the correct response, as well as others not involving explicit ...

Linopirdine does not improve matching performance in the titrating matching-to-sample paradigm
Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 1995Linopirdine (DUP 996), a proposed cognitive enhancing agent, was studied in four squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus) and six White Carneau pigeons responding under a titrating matching-to-sample paradigm (TMTS). Briefly, under this titration schedule, each trial began with the presentation of a sample stimulus on the center key of a three-key pigeon or

Learning mechanisms in matching to sample.
Journal of Experimental Psychology: Animal Behavior Processes, 1992A model system and an experiment on early learning and decision processes in matching-to-sample and oddity-from-sample tasks are presented. The model system is based, in part, on videotaped records of pigeons' looking responses before they chose 1 of 2 comparison stimuli.

Canine human-scent-matching: The limitations of systematic pseudo matching-to-sample procedures
Forensic Science International, 2017Here transfer performance is contrasted with baseline training performance to determine whether a relational solution strategy is learned from the systematic pseudo matching-to-sample procedures commonly used to train human-scent-matching dogs. Evidence indicates that due to the lack of constraints to control against simple discrimination solutions ...

Programming stimuli in matching to sample.
Journal of the experimental analysis of behavior, 1998In these investigations, a "teaching machine" was used to train pre-school and first-grade children in a series of progressively difficult discrimination tasks, leading up to matching to sample. Such training was much more efficient than training in the final discrimination alone.
