Mathematical Modelling in Hydrocephalus
Neurology India, 2021Abstract Background: Various studies highlight the significance of alterations in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and cerebral blood flow (CBF) dynamics in the pathogenesis of hydrocephalus and suggest the role of mathematical modeling in studying these complex interactions. Objective:

Mathematical Models of Hysteresis
Physical Review Letters, 1986A new approach to Preisach's hysteresis model, which emphasizes its phenomenological nature and mathematical generality, is briefly described. Then the theorem which gives the necessary and sufficient conditions for the representation of actual hysteresis nonlinearities by Preisach's model is proven.

Mathematical Modelling in Dutch Textbooks: Is It Genuine Mathematical Modelling?
2017n this chapter, we analyse the two most frequently used Dutch mathematics textbooks for upper secondary schools in order to determine to what extent the tasks in these textbooks meet the criteria we have set for genuine mathematical modelling: does a modelling task have a modelling purpose, and do the students have to perform characteristic modelling ...

Electrocochleography by mathematical modelling
International Journal of Bio-Medical Computing, 1976The aim of this work is to critically review some of the classical electrocochleographic methods in accordance with the systems theory: (a) in describing, by means of mathematical models, the different parts of the auditory system concerned in the generation of stimulus-evoked signals; and: (b) in comparing the outputs of these models with the ...

A mathematical model for the immunosenescence.
Rivista di biologia, 2001We propose a model for the dynamics of the immune system by considering the subpopulations of virgin and memory T lymphocytes on a time scale corresponding to the human life span. In the deterministic balance equation we introduce a fluctuating term in order to take into account the chronic antigenic stress.

A mathematical model of osteoarthosis
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1990Osteoarthrosis is modeled by a set of differential equations, i.e. equations giving the rate of deterioration of a given factor as a function of the state of the system. Here the system is the assembly of the factors and their deterioration rates, and the factors are the entities relevant to the model such as, for example, shock absorbance of the ...

On the mathematical modelling of pain
Neurochemical Research, 1996In this review a case is presented for the use of mathematical modelling in the study of pain. The philosophy of mathematical modelling is outlined and a recommendation is made for the use of modern nonlinear techniques and computational neuroscience in the modelling of pain.

Solution crystallization is becoming increasingly important as separation, purification, and controlled particle formation of biomolecules in pharmaceutical applications, with high potential as a green and scalable method at an industrial level. As this book's previous chapters discussed already, a large amount of attention is paid to the fundamental ...

A mathematical model of bilingualism
Applied Mathematics and Computation, 2002The authors propose a model consisting of three ordinary differential equations for a mixed population with one bilingual and two monolinguad components with one dominated language. On the basis of equilibrium and stability analysis, criteria are proposed for the persistence or extinction of the dominated-language speakers.

A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR PHYTOPLANKTON
Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 2002This paper introduces a model of growth and dispersion of the marine phytoplankton, focusing on the effects of the currents (3D) and vertical mixing. Our method consists of describing these effects as the product of the horizontal current, which is solved along the characteristic lines, and the coupled action of vertical current and vertical diffusion,
