A mathematical and numerical analysis of the Maxwell-Stefan diffusion equations

open access: yesDiscrete & Continuous Dynamical Systems - B, 2012
We consider the Maxwell-Stefan model of diffusion in a multicomponent gaseous mixture. After focusing on the main differences with the Fickian diffusion model, we study the equations governing a three-component gas mixture. Mostly in the case of a tridiagonal diffusion matrix, we provide a qualitative and quantitative mathematical analysis of the model.

Long COVID in People With Multiple Sclerosis and Related Disorders: A Multicenter Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Managing long COVID in people with multiple sclerosis and related disorders (pwMSRD) is complex due to overlapping symptoms. To address evidence gaps, we evaluated long COVID susceptibility in pwMSRD versus controls and its associations with multi‐domain function and disability.

A Q‐Learning Algorithm to Solve the Two‐Player Zero‐Sum Game Problem for Nonlinear Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, Volume 39, Issue 3, Page 566-581, March 2025.
A Q‐learning algorithm to solve the two‐player zero‐sum game problem for nonlinear systems. ABSTRACT This paper deals with the two‐player zero‐sum game problem, which is a bounded L2$$ {L}_2 $$‐gain robust control problem. Finding an analytical solution to the complex Hamilton‐Jacobi‐Issacs (HJI) equation is a challenging task.

Unrolling of Syngonium podophyllum: Functional Anatomy, Morphology and Modelling of Its Peltate Leaves

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The unrolling of the peltate leaves in Syngonium podophyllum is analyzed and quantified (left‐hand side to center). These measurements serve to verify a mathematical model for leaf unrolling based on the model used in Schmidt (2007). An additional formula for obtaining a layer mismatch from a prescribed radius is derived.

Modeling, Mathematical and Numerical Analysis of Electrorheological Fluids [PDF]

open access: yesApplications of Mathematics, 2004
Many electrorheological fluids are suspensions consisting of solid particles and a carrier oil. If such a suspension is exposed to a strong electric field the effective viscosity increases dramatically. In this paper we first derive a model which captures this behaviour.

A Mathematical and Numerical Model for the Analysis of Hybrid Rocket Motors [PDF]

open access: yesINCAS BULLETIN, 2009
The hybrid rocket motors (HRM) use a two-phase propellant system. This offers some remarkable advantages but also arises some difficulties like the neutralization of their instabilities. The non-acoustic combustion instabilities are high-amplitude pressure oscillations that have too low frequencies to be associated with acoustics.

Steady and Stable: Numerical Investigations of Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations

open access: yes, 2017
Excerpt: Mathematics is a language which can describe patterns in everyday life as well as abstract concepts existing only in our minds. Patterns exist in data, functions, and sets constructed around a common theme, but the most tangible patterns are ...

Bridging Nature and Technology: A Perspective on Role of Machine Learning in Bioinspired Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Machine learning (ML) is revolutionizing the development of bioinspired ceramics. This article investigates how ML can be used to design new ceramic materials with exceptional performance, inspired by the structures found in nature. The research highlights how ML can predict material properties, optimize designs, and create advanced models to unlock a ...
