Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Juvenile hormone regulates the maturation of sexually dimorphic naive ethanol olfactory preference in Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science
The molecular mechanisms underlying the maturation of innate reward behaviours remain poorly understood. We have identified a sexually dimorphic innate reward behaviour in Drosophila melanogaster that varies depending on the age, sex and mating status in

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Drosophila Males Differentially Express Small Proteins Regulating Stem Cell Division Frequency in Response to Mating

open access: yesJournal of Developmental Biology
The germline stem cells (GSCs) in the male gonad of Drosophila can increase their division frequency in response to a demand for more sperm caused by repeated mating.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.

Deep learning reveals endogenous sterols as allosteric modulators of the GPCR–Gα interface

open access: yeseLife
Endogenous intracellular allosteric modulators of GPCRs remain largely unexplored, with limited binding and phenotype data available. This gap arises from the lack of robust computational methods for unbiased cavity identification, cavity-specific ligand

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Resilience to ghosting? A randomized controlled trial examining the consequences of ghosting on sleep quality in potential romantic relationships

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
IntroductionGrounded in belongingness theory, the goal of this study is to understand the consequences of ghosting (an approach to ending relationships that involves ending all forms of communication with someone without explanation) on objective and ...
