REPRODUCTIVE AND METABOLIC RESPONSES IN EWES TO DIETARY PROTEIN SUPPLEMENT DURING MATING PERIOD IN DRY SEASON OF NORTHEAST BRAZIL

open access: yesCiência Animal Brasileira, 2015
This study evaluated the effect of food supplements with different levels of protein on reproductive and metabolic response of ewes during the mating period. Forty-one ewes were supplemented during 43 days with amount protein to meet 1.0 (diet I; n = 14)

The direction of the breeding process in a herd of Ayrshire breed cows in the conditions of the Vologda region

open access: yesАграрная наука Евро-Северо-Востока, 2023
The direction of the breeding process in herds and populations of dairy cattle breeds based on the actual indicators and variability of the trait is one of the main factors that allows to determine the effectiveness of breeding measures.

A new robust diagnostic polymerase chain reaction for determining the mating status of female Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The principal malaria vector in Africa, Anopheles gambiae, contains two pairs of autosomes and one pair of sex chromosomes. The Y chromosome is only associated with males and other Y chromosome-specific DNA sequences, which are transferred to women ...

Genetic Basis of Self-Incompatibility in the Lichen-Forming Fungus Lobaria pulmonaria and Skewed Frequency Distribution of Mating-Type Idiomorphs: Implications for Conservation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Fungal populations that reproduce sexually are likely to be genetically more diverse and have a higher adaptive potential than asexually reproducing populations.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Protogyny after hibernation and aestivation in Cheilomenes sexmaculata (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) in central Japan

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2017
Differences in the time of occurrence of both sexes of adult ladybirds, which reflect differences in the longevity and reproductive strategies of the sexes, is important from the perspective of applied entomology, including biological control, as well as

Spiral groove seal [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
Mating flat surfaces inhibit leakage of a fluid around a stationary shaft. A spiral groove produces a pumping action toward the fluid when the shaft rotates. This prevents leakage while a generated hydraulic lifting force separates the mating surfaces to

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Proteases Shape the Chlamydomonas Secretome: Comparison to Classical Neuropeptide Processing Machinery

open access: yesProteomes, 2018
The recent identification of catalytically active peptidylglycine α-amidating monooxygenase (PAM) in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, a unicellular green alga, suggested the presence of a PAM-like gene and peptidergic signaling in the last eukaryotic ...
