Summary: The classical GUE matrix model of \(N\times N\) Hermitian matrices equipped with the Gaussian measure can be used to count the orientable topological surfaces by genus obtained through gluing the edges of a polygon. We introduce a variation of the GUE matrix model that enumerates certain edge-ramified CW complexes obtained from polygon gluings.

This chapter describes and provides an example of the matrix models: Lefkovitch model, Leslie model, Malthus model, and stability matrix models. From these the Discrete- and Continuous-Time Markov Chain Process is introduced. These matrix models are presented as they were historically occurring, and it is highlighted how the matrix structure offers a ...

Mathematical Population Studies, 1989
A review of the Leslie matrix model theory and its literature 1941-1987 is presented. The point of view is that of a mathematician who focuses on the parts of the theory which are relevant to demography. Works of a decidedly applied nature are not dealt with.

Classical Calogero Model and Matrix Model
Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1993Summary: It is proved that the classical Calogero model is a realization of the U(1) current algebra. The relations with the hermitian one-matrix model are explicitly shown. In particular, the coupling constants in the potential of the matrix model are identified as the ``time'' variables of the classical Calogero model, which are conjugate to the ...

We study examples of one-dimensional matrix models whose potentials possess an energy spectrum that can be explicitly determined. This allows for an exact solution in the continuum limit. Specifically, step-like potentials and the Morse potential are considered.
