The effects of maturity and growth rate on the properties of spruce wood tracheids
Wood Science and Technology, 2001Hypotheses are created regarding the control of size scale and geometry of softwood tracheids within a genotype, and tested using two independent Norway Spruce (Picea abies) materials. Variation in physical dimensions of tracheids is controlled predominantly by cambium maturity.

Some Physical and Mechanical Properties of Juvenile Wood and Mature Wood of Taurus Cedar
2012Bu çalışmada, Kahramanmaraş-Başkonuş mevkiinden temin edilen Toros sedirinin (Cedrus Libani A.Richard) genç odun ve olgun odununun bazı fiziksel ve mekanik özellikleri Türk standartlarına göre belirlenmiştir. Genç odunun hava kurusu yoğunluk, tam kuru yoğunluk, hacmen daralma, hacmen genişleme, lif doygunluk noktası ve taze hal rutubeti sırasıyla; 574 ...

A Study on Differences in Fiber Morphology between Juvenile Wood and Mature Wood

Tree biomechanics and the transition from juvenile to mature wood
2016Juvenility in xylem formation can be looked as a mere biological ageing process. It can be also the result of biomechanical adaption to growing conditions different in the young ages. The field of structural mechanics regards resistance to external forces and posture control in long lasting progressive loading, according to external conditions as wind ...

Nanomechanical characterization of wood cell walls during maturation process
2009Improved knowledge on the way cell wall stiffness changes during the maturation process is of great importance to feed and help theoretical modelling on growth stress generation in trees. This paper outlines one of the most promising techniques to measure viscoelastic properties within the different layers of the developing cell wall based on the so ...
