There is a strong desire to exploit transcriptomics data from model species for the genetic improvement of non-model crops. Here, we use gene expression profiles from the commercial model Pinus taeda to identify candidate genes implicated in juvenile-mature wood transition in the non-model relative, P. sylvestris.

Effects of the maturity of wood waste compost on the structural features of humic acids
Bioresource Technology, 2009An analytical scheme for the separation of humic substances (HSs) and non-humic substances (non-HSs) was established to estimate the humification index (HI), which was defined as the ratio of HS carbon content to non-HS carbon content. The alkaline compost-extract contained a mixture of HSs and non-HSs, while acidification of the compost-extract ...

Abstract A generalisation of existing mechanical models is proposed to account for the relation between wood macroscopic properties and fibre microstructure and chemical composition. It is applied to understanding of the origin of anisotropic maturation strains measured at the outermost surface of the xylem.

Growth responses of mature loblolly pine to dead wood manipulations
Forest Ecology and Management, 2012Large-scale manipulations of dead wood in mature Pinus taeda L. stands in the southeastern United States included a major one-time input of logs (fivefold increase in log volume) created by felling trees onsite, annual removals of all dead wood above P10 cm in diameter and P60 cm in length, and a reference in which no manipulations took place.

The effects of maturity and growth rate on the properties of spruce wood tracheids
Wood Science and Technology, 2001Hypotheses are created regarding the control of size scale and geometry of softwood tracheids within a genotype, and tested using two independent Norway Spruce (Picea abies) materials. Variation in physical dimensions of tracheids is controlled predominantly by cambium maturity.

Some Physical and Mechanical Properties of Juvenile Wood and Mature Wood of Taurus Cedar
2012Bu çalışmada, Kahramanmaraş-Başkonuş mevkiinden temin edilen Toros sedirinin (Cedrus Libani A.Richard) genç odun ve olgun odununun bazı fiziksel ve mekanik özellikleri Türk standartlarına göre belirlenmiştir. Genç odunun hava kurusu yoğunluk, tam kuru yoğunluk, hacmen daralma, hacmen genişleme, lif doygunluk noktası ve taze hal rutubeti sırasıyla; 574 ...

A Study on Differences in Fiber Morphology between Juvenile Wood and Mature Wood
