Wind resistance aerial path planning for efficient reconstruction of offshore ship

open access: yesInternational Journal of Digital Earth, 2022
When the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is applied to three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of the offshore ship, it faces two problems: the battery capacity limitation of the UAV and the disturbance of the wind in the environment.

The spatial distribution of rainfall extremes and the influence of El Niño Southern Oscillation

open access: yesWeather and Climate Extremes, 2017
Extreme rainfall does not occur in spatial isolation. Rainfall occurs in a region, and within that region nearby locations are likely to experience similar impacts due to spatial dependence.

An Experimental Study on Combustion and Cycle-by-Cycle Variations of an N-Butanol Engine with Hydrogen Direct Injection under Lean Burn Conditions

open access: yesSensors, 2022
This study experimentally investigated the effects of hydrogen direct injection on combustion and the cycle-by-cycle variations in a spark ignition n-butanol engine under lean burn conditions.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

A Hydrofluoric Acid-Free Green Synthesis of Magnetic M.Ti2CTx Nanostructures for the Sequestration of Cesium and Strontium Radionuclide

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
MAX phases are the parent materials used for the formation of MXenes, and are generally obtained by etching using the highly corrosive acid HF. To develop a more environmentally friendly approach for the synthesis of MXenes, in this work, titanium ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Structural, Microstructural and Magnetic Properties of SmCo5/20wt%Fe Magnetic Nanocomposites Produced by Mechanical Milling in the Presence of CaO

open access: yesMagnetochemistry, 2022
In this work, we demonstrate the possibility of using a soluble ceramic material, 5 wt% CaO, as an additive for an SmCo5/20wt%Fe exchange-coupled nanocomposite obtained by mechanical milling in order to inhibit the grain growth of the soft magnetic phase

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Modeling of spatial extremes in environmental data science: time to move away from max-stable processes

open access: yesEnvironmental Data Science
Environmental data science for spatial extremes has traditionally relied heavily on max-stable processes. Even though the popularity of these models has perhaps peaked with statisticians, they are still perceived and considered as the “state of the art ...
