A Maxent-Stress Model for Graph Layout

IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2012
In some applications of graph visualization, input edges have associated target lengths. Dealing with these lengths is a challenge, especially for large graphs. Stress models are often employed in this situation. However, the traditional full stress model is not scalable due to its reliance on an initial all-pairs shortest path calculation. A number of

FROM THERMODYNAMICS TO MAXENT

International Journal of Modern Physics B, 2007
The maximum entropy principle (MaxEnt) is one of the most powerful approaches in the theorist arsenal. It has been used in many areas of science, and, in particular, in both statistical mechanics and the quantum many body problem. Here we show how to derive MaxEnt from the laws of thermodynamics.

Abbreviation Recognition with MaxEnt Model

2006
Abbreviated words carry critical information in the literature of many special domains. This paper reports our research in recognizing dotted abbreviations with MaxEnt model. The key points in our work include: (1) allowing the model to optimize with as many features as possible to capture the text characteristics of context words, and (2) utilizing ...

Lifelong Learning Maxent for Suggestion Classification

Computación y Sistemas, 2018
Suggestion classification for opinion data is defined as identifying a given utterance by suggestion or non-suggestion class. In this paper, we introduce a method called LLMaxent which is the solution for the cross-domain suggestion classification. LLMaxent is a lifelong machine learning approach using maximum entropy (Maxent).

Application of Maxent to Inverse Photoemission Spectroscopy

1996
Information about the spectral density gained by inverse photoemission spectroscopy is distorted by the Fermi distribution and the apparatus function. In many cases recovery of the desired physical quantities is hampered by an ill-posed inversion problem.

Wissensrevision in einer MaxEnt/MinREnt-Umgebung

2003

Maxent-Nesom in Equilibrium Conditions

2002
Let us consider a many-body system (the sample in a given experiment) in contact with ideal reservoirs, and, to be specific, let us take the case of thermal and particle reservoirs.

MaxEnt fails at reasoning by transitivity

In series of recent papers, Anttila, Magri, and their collaborators extend the Greenbergian implicational universals from the categorical to the probabilistic setting and use the resulting implicational universals to argue that ME typologies are less restrictive than the NHG typologies corresponding to the same constraint sets.
