The fine structure of the terminal sensilla on the maxillary palps of Schistocerca gregaria (Forskl) (Orthoptera, Acrididae)

Zeitschrift fr Zellforschung und Mikroskopische Anatomie, 1969
The fine structure of the terminal sensilla on the maxillary palps of Schistocerca gregaria has been investigated. Most organules include six neurons with dendrites extending to the tip of the cuticular peg, the opening of which is controlled so that the dendrites are not always exposed. The neurons are isolated from each other by a neurilemma cell and

Scanning Electron Microscopy of Blaberus Giganteus (L.) Maxillary Palp Sensilla

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1976
The maxillary palps of B. giganteus are located on the maxillae which lie between the labrum and labium. They are modified appendages used in feeding. Each appendage bears 5 segments, the most distal of which contains the palp organ or sensory pad (Fig. 1). The maxillary palps were fixed in 2.5% glutaraldehyde in 0.05 M sodium cacodylate buffer (pH 7.1)

Sensilla on the maxillary palp of cave and surface-dwelling species of the genus Tachycines (Orthoptera: Rhaphidophoridae)

Arthropod Structure & Development
Due to caves' environmental features (e.g., darkness and food limitation), cave-dwelling insects have evolved well-developed sensory systems. The habitats of the camel crickets of Tachycines are diverse, found both in cave and surface ecosystems. This study aims to clarify the sensilla types and distribution on the maxillary palp in male adults of the ...

[Chemoreceptor organs of the antennae and maxillary palps of fleas (Siphonaptera)].

Parazitologiia, 1980
Ultrastructure of chemoreceptor sensillae on antennae and maxillary palps of fleas of Ceratophyllus sciurorum is described. On antennae of fleas are the following types of sensillae: trichoid cuspidate and obtusate, fungoid, basiconical sensillae in olfactory fossae and on the surface of antennae.

Electrophysiological responses from receptor neurons in mosquito maxillary palp sensilla.

Ciba Foundation symposium, 1997
We recently completed an electrophysiological study of the receptor neurons found in the sensilla basiconica on the maxillary palps of mosquitoes. Our results describe a class of receptor neurons whose properties could provide the afferent input required for some aspects of CO2-modulated host-locating behaviour.
