Understanding Violations of Gricean Maxims in Preschoolers and Adults [PDF]
This study used a revised Conversational Violations Test to examine Gricean maxim violations in 4- to 6-year-old Japanese children and adults. Participants’ understanding of the following maxims was assessed: be informative (first maxim of quantity ...

AbstractWe evaluate the goal of maximizing the number of individuals matched to acceptable outcomes. We present two mechanisms that maximize assignments. The first is Pareto efficient and undominated—in terms of the number of assignments—in equilibrium. The second is fair for unassigned agents and assigns weakly more agents than any stable mechanism in

The Bayesian Expectation-Maximization-Maximization for the 3PLM [PDF]
The current study proposes an alternative feasible Bayesian algorithm for the three-parameter logistic model (3PLM) from a mixture-modeling perspective, namely, the Bayesian Expectation-Maximization-Maximization (Bayesian EMM, or BEMM). As a new maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) alternative to the marginal MLE EM (MMLE/EM) for the 3PLM, the EMM can ...

Maximal potentials, maximal singular integrals, and the spherical maximal function [PDF]
We introduce a notion of maximal potentials and we prove that they form bounded operators from $L^p$ to the homogeneous Sobolev space $\dot{W}^{1,p}$ for all $n/(n-1)

MAXIMAL ACCELERATION OR MAXIMAL ACCELERATIONS? [PDF]
We review the arguments supporting the existence of a maximal acceleration for a massive particle and show that different values of this upper limit can be predicted in different physical situations.

The Violation of Cooperative Principles on Students\u27 Responses Toward Teacher Questions in Tefl Class [PDF]
Questioning is mostly conducted in learning process. As the reasons, by giving questions, teacher engages communicative interaction with students in classroom. But sometimes the communication can run effectively.

AbstractThis paper investigates a connection between the semantic notion provided by the ordering ◁∗ among theories in model theory and the syntactic (N)SOPn hierarchy of Shelah. It introduces two properties which are natural extensions of this hierarchy, called SOP2 and SOP1. It is shown here that SOP3 implies SOP2 implies SOP1.
