Inspiratory Muscle Performance and Its Correlates Among Division I American Football Players

open access: yesJournal of Functional Morphology and Kinesiology
Background: Inspiratory muscle performance plays a crucial role in athletic demands, yet its associations with anthropometric and positional variables in American football remain underexplored.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Measurement validity of an electronic training device to assess breathing characteristics during inspiratory muscle training in patients with weaning difficulties.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Inspiratory muscle training (IMT) improves respiratory muscle function and might enhance weaning outcomes in patients with weaning difficulties. An electronic inspiratory loading device provides valid, automatically processed information on breathing ...

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.

Respiratory and limb muscles’ ability to repeatedly generate maximal isometric strength in patients with intensive care unit-acquired weakness: an observational study

open access: yesBMC Anesthesiology
Background Intensive care unit-acquired weakness (ICU-Aw) is a prevalent complication in critically ill patients, affecting both limb and respiratory muscles, individually or concurrently.

Optimal esophageal balloon volume for accurate estimation of pleural pressure at end-expiration and end-inspiration: an in vitro bench experiment

open access: yesIntensive Care Medicine Experimental, 2017
Background Esophageal pressure, used as a surrogate for pleural pressure, is commonly measured by air-filled balloon, and the accuracy of measurement depends on the proper balloon volume. It has been found that larger filling volume is required at higher

Wearable Smart Patches on Sustainable Chitosan With Reversible Microbial Growth‐Inhibitory Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Chitosan, a polysaccharide upcycled from biowaste, has long promised sustainable, biocompatible, and antimicrobial films and devices, an appeal reinforced by its recent regulatory recognition, with several chitosan‐based antibacterial dressings gaining clearance through the Food and Drug Administration's 510(k) pathway.

Inspiratory muscle strength and walking capacity in patients with COPD

open access: yesEuropean Clinical Respiratory Journal, 2020
Purpose: It has been suggested that patients with inspiratory muscle weakness could benefit from specific inspiratory muscle training (IMT). We aimed to examine the frequency of patients with inspiratory muscle weakness in a Danish hospital-based ...
