Accuracy of equations for calculating normal values of maximal inspiratory [PDF]

open access: yes
The objective was to compare the accuracy of available prediction equations and consider the implications of using these equations in interpreting measured Maximal Inspiratory Pressure (MIP) in healthy Caucasian older adults (n = 129; 65–85 years). Eight

Bio‐Derived Polyelectrolyte Additive–Induced Interfacial Ion‐Diffusion Barriers for Nonvolatile Organic Artificial Synapses

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sodium alginate regulates interfacial ion transport and retention in electrolyte‐gated synaptic transistors. The carboxylate‐rich polymeric network forms a dynamic interfacial ion‐diffusion barrier that facilitates ion injection during programming while suppressing ion back‐diffusion, thereby stabilizing the electrochemically doped channel state.

Respiratory Muscle Function in Children and Adolescents with Cystic Fibrosis in the Era of CFTR Modulator Therapies

open access: yesChildren
Objective: The objective of this study was to analyze respiratory muscle function in children and adolescents with cystic fibrosis (CF) treated with Elexacaftor/Tezacaftor/Ivacaftor (ETI) compared to healthy individuals, based on the hypothesis that CFTR

Ioga versus atividade aeróbia: efeitos sobre provas espirométricas e pressão inspiratória máxima Yoga versus aerobic activity: effects on spirometry results and maximal inspiratory pressure

Strong Lead‐Free Bioinspired Piezoceramics for Durable Energy Transducers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We fabricated brick‐and‐mortar lead‐free piezoceramics with Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3 monocrystal platelets as bricks and amorphous silica as mortar. The alignment of the bricks and the presence of the amorphous silica led to anisotropic residual stresses. These residual stresses increase the samples toughness, strength and durability while the brick alignment ...

Biomarkers to measure respiratory muscle damage following inspiratory pressure threshold loading in healthy young men

open access: yes, 2023
Elevated respiratory muscle work is encountered during strenuous exercise, acute and chronic respiratory disorders, and during inspiratory pressure threshold loading (ITL). ITL can induce respiratory muscle damage, evidenced by increases in fast and slow

[Age-related changes in static maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures].

open access: yesNihon Kyobu Shikkan Gakkai zasshi, 1997
We evaluated 240 consecutive subjects (aged 20-91) without cardiopulmonary, endocrine or, neuromuscular disease consecutively regarding pulmonary function (TLC, VC, FEV1, RV) and static maximal inspiratory (PImax) and expiratory (PEmax) pressures. PImax and PEmax declined with advancing age. PImax correlated with grip strength, VC, FEV1, height, weight,
