Inspiratory muscle training abolishes the blood lactate increase associated with volitional hyperpnoea superimposed on exercise and accelerates lactate and oxygen uptake kinetics at the onset of exercise

open access: yes, 2011
We examined the effects of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) upon volitional hyperpnoea-mediated increases in blood lactate ([lac−]B) during cycling at maximal lactate steady state (MLSS) power, and blood lactate and oxygen uptake kinetics at the onset ...

Correlation of maximal respiratory exchange ratio with anaerobic power and maximal oxygen uptake in anaerobic trained athletes

open access: yesPedagogy of Physical Culture and Sports, 2021
Background and Study Aim. The respiratory exchange ratio (RER) is the ratio of the amount of carbon dioxide produced (VCO2) to the amount of oxygen uptake (VO2) is important.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Performance-Determining Variables of a Simulated Skimo Sprint Competition in Elite Junior Skimo Athletes

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This study aimed to investigate the variables determining performance in a simulated on-snow Skimo sprint competition, and how their relationship with performance evolves from the individual time trial to the final.

Agreement analysis between critical power and intensity corresponding to 50% in cycling exercise

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano, 2016
The purpose of this study was to determine the level of agreement between critical power (CP) and intensity corresponding to 50% of the difference (50% Δ) between oxygen uptake (VO2) at lactate threshold (LT) and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) in ...

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Validity of a squash-specific fitness test [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Purpose: This study examined the validity of a squash-specific test designed to assess endurance capability and aerobic power. Methods: Eight squash players and eight runners performed, in a counterbalanced order, incremental treadmill (TT) and squash ...
