Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Maximum Entropy Models for Quantum Systems
We show that for a finite von Neumann algebra, the states that maximise Segal’s entropy with a given energy level are Gibbs states. This is a counterpart of the classical result for the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space and von ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Maximum Entropy Principle in Image Restoration
Many imaging systems are faced with the problem of estimating a true image from a degraded dataset. In such systems, the image degradation is translated into a convolution with a Point Spread Function (PSF) and addition of noise.

There are two entropy-based methods to deal with linear inverse problems, which we shall call the ordinary method of maximum entropy (OME) and the method of maximum entropy in the mean (MEM).

This paper seeks to estimate the entropy for the inverse Weibull distribution using progressively Type-II censored data. To reach this objective, the entropy is defined through three entropy measures, namely, Rényi, q-entropy and Shannon entropy, and two

How biased are maximum entropy models? [PDF]
Maximum entropy models have become popular statistical models in neuroscience and other areas in biology, and can be useful tools for obtaining estimates of mutual information in biological systems.

Information entropy of classical versus explosive percolation
We study the Shannon entropy of the cluster size distribution in classical as well as explosive percolation, in order to estimate the uncertainty in the sizes of randomly chosen clusters. At the critical point the cluster size distribution is a power-law,

This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.
