Maximum oxygen consumption in dogs during muscular exercise and cold exposure

Pflugers Archiv European Journal of Physiology, 1980
Maximum oxygen consumption for a short exhaustive work (Ex VO2 max) and for a severe cold stress (C VO2 max) were investigated in 8 dogs. Heart rate, plasma catecholamines and substrate concentrations were measured under both conditions. Mean C VO2 max was lower than mean Ex VO2 max.

Maximum oxygen consumption at altitude

European Journal of Applied Physiology, 1961
On 11 subjects, members of an Himalayan expedition, observations have been collected on maximum oxygen consumption (\(\dot V_{O_2 } ^{\max } \)) and some respiratory and circulatory characters at sea level and at altitude after a 60 days acclimatization period.

Conventional testing methods produce submaximal values of maximum oxygen consumption

British Journal of Sports Medicine, 2011
BackgroundThis study used a novel protocol to test the hypothesis that a plateau in oxygen consumption (VO2max) during incremental exercise testing to exhaustion represents the maximal capacity of the cardiovascular system to transport oxygen.MethodsTwenty-six subjects were randomly divided into two groups matched by their initial VO2max.

Maximum oxygen consumption of rats and its changes with various experimental procedures

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1979
A ten-stage treadmill test was developed and standardized to secure the VO2max of male and female rats assigned to various cross-sectional and longitudinal experimental groups. Repeated measurements indicated that the test procedure was reliable and could be used for research purposes.

Variability of Maximum Oxygen Consumption Measurement in Various Metabolic Systems

Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 1999
Although at one time or another most laboratories experience measurement errors in maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max), this issue is rarely addressed in scientific litera- ture. Some national certification bodies that supervise the ac- creditation process accept a variance in aerobic capacity mea- surement of 4% or 2 to 3 ml·kg 1 ...
