Maximum oxygen consumption predicts mortality in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis.

Hepato-gastroenterology, 2014
Liver diseases are responsible for metabolic disturbances and the loss of muscle mass and function. This study aims to correlate maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) with the Model for End Stage Liver Disease (MELD) severity score and associate VO2max with mortality in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis. This prospective study included 27 patients who had a ...

[Hormonal response to cold during maximum oxygen consumption in the dog].

Journal de physiologie, 1985
In dogs, acute exposure to severe cold (immersion 8-13 degrees C) induced a sustained shivering, a rapid increase in oxygen consumption (VO2) and a progressive colonic temperature fall. With a colonic temperature fall rate of 2-6 degrees C/h, VO2 reached a maximum value (VO2 max), which remained steady for more than 30 min.
