Stability of Lakes near the Temperature of Maximum Density
Science, 1965In deep lakes that are near the temperature of maximum density, stability is greatest when the decrease of temperature with depth is about one-half of the decrease in temperature of maximum density with depth. Observed temperature decreases in lakes under such conditions tend to follow the curve that produces greatest stability.

Southwest Pacific temperatures: trends in maximum and minimum temperatures
Atmospheric Research, 1995Abstract Diurnal temperature trends are described for newly homogenised climate data sets for a large area of the South Pacific. The diurnal trends differ from those documented for Northern Hemisphere land areas, where decreases are observed in the diurnal temperature range as a result of increases principally in minimum temperature.
