Computing Skinning Weights via Convex Duality

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
We present an alternate optimization method to compute bounded biharmonic skinning weights. Our method relies on a dual formulation, which can be optimized with a nonnegative linear least squares setup. Abstract We study the problem of optimising for skinning weights through the lens of convex duality.

Duck Tales: Spatio‐temporal dynamics of habitat use and prey relationships of a diving duck and its implication for conservation management

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
Shows the spatiotemporal predictability of wintering eiders based on monitoring data from 1993–2023 with intertidal and subtidal Marine Protected Areas (yellow and green, respectively), and a depiction of the current mismatch between eider hotspots and protection measures. Abstract Migratory animals often follow predictable spatiotemporal distributions

Living on the edge: How do tiger rattlesnakes (Crotalus tigris) navigate a residential golf course development?

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Outdoor recreation and the infrastructure that supports it can impose a wide range of effects on wildlife, and impacts can vary in their severity based on taxa, the surrounding landscape matrix, and the manner in which recreational spaces are managed.

Do aphid endosymbiotic bacteria influence parasitoid searching behaviour through changes in aphid honeydew production?

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
Hamiltonella defensa infection increases honeydew production in certain aphid genotypes, potentially modifying aphid feeding behaviour. Parasitoid wasps, Aphidius ervi, are more attracted to honeydew from H. defensa‐infected aphids; though larger honeydew amounts may slightly deter searching.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions: A review and research agenda on rebound effects and win–win strategies

open access: yesInternational Journal of Management Reviews, EarlyView.
Abstract Rebound effects describe how efficiency improvements in energy or resource use can increase demand, thereby partially or fully offsetting expected environmental savings. This dynamic complicates win–win strategies that aim to improve environmental and financial performance.
