From Clinic to Computation: Multiscale Bioengineering Strategies for Durable Biological Aortic Valve Replacements

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.

Effects of uniform radial electric field on the MHD and heat transfer due to a shrinking stretching rotating disk

open access: yesSakarya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü Dergisi, 2019
Flow and heat transfer of an incompressible electrically conducting fluid on radially shrinking/stretching rotating disk in presence of uniform magnetic field are studied in the present paper.

On explicit solutions to the stationary axisymmetric Einstein-Maxwell equations describing dust disks

open access: yes, 2003
We review explicit solutions to the stationary axisymmetric Einstein-Maxwell equations which can be interpreted as disks of charged dust. The disks of finite or infinite extension are infinitesimally thin and constitute a surface layer at the boundary of

Clean Up Behind You ‐ Novel Patterning Approach for Solid Immersion Lenses

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A focused ion beam (FIB) milling strategy enables rapid fabrication of solid immersion lenses (SILs) with smooth, debris‐free surfaces eliminating the need for post‐processing. The optimized pattern improves efficiency and surface quality. SILs containing NV centers are also investigated, confirming the technique's suitability for quantum and photonic ...

Aqueous Two‐Phase Bioinks for Discrete Packing and Compartmentalization of 3D Bioprinted Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Aqueous two‐phase systems (ATPS) enable the formation of biomimetic interfaces crucial for tissue engineering. However, clinical translation remains limited by the challenge of precisely controlling cellular compartmentalization. Here, we developed ATPS biomaterial inks for 3D bioprinting allowing tuneable droplet formation via NaCl modulation.

Spatial Patterning of Modular Gelatin‐Peroxide Microspheres in Melt‐Electrowritten Scaffolds Provides Controlled Oxygen Generation and Mitigates Hypoxia and Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A bioassembly approach is described using photo‐crosslinked gelatin‐based microgels containing calcium peroxide (CaO2) to generate oxygen (O2) and enhance cell survival in hypoxic conditions (1% O2). Bioassembly enables spatial patterning of individual CaO2‐laden and mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)‐laden microgels and allows for decoupling and mitigating ...

Blow-up for nonlinear Maxwell equations

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2018
We construct classical solutions to the nonlinear Maxwell system with periodic boundary conditions which blow up in H(curl). A similar result is shown on the full space. Our construction is based on an analysis of a shock wave in one space dimension.

Characterization of an Injectable Poly(vinyl alcohol)‐gelatin Hydrogel for Growth Factor Delivery in an Orthopedic Application

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces photo‐crosslinkable tyraminated poly(vinyl alcohol)‐gelatin (PVA‐GT) hydrogels as tunable injectable platforms for tissue engineering and growth factor delivery applications. This schematic illustrates the two developed hydrogel formulations and the experimental workflow used to evaluate their physico‐chemical properties in vitro ...

Von Neumann Stability Analysis of Finite Difference Schemes for Maxwell--Debye and Maxwell--Lorentz Equations

open access: yes, 2008
This technical report yields detailed calculations of the paper [1] (B. Bid\'egaray-Fesquet, "Stability of FD-TD schemes for Maxwell-Debye and Maxwell-Lorentz equations", Technical report, LMC-IMAG, 2005) which have been however automated since (see http:
