Demonstration of an All‐Optical AND Gate Mediated by Photochromic Molecules

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A logic AND gate that runs on photons is demonstrated. It relies on two spatially separated photochromic molecules that work in tandem. Abstract The realization of a photonic logic AND gate, i.e. a logic AND gate that runs on photons rather than electrons, and where all steps are controlled by light, is demonstrated. In a proof‐of‐principle experiment,

Theoretical prediction of hysteretic rubber friction in ball on plate configuration by finite element method

open access: yeseXPRESS Polymer Letters, 2009
This paper has investigated theoretically the influence of sliding speed and temperature on the hysteretic friction in case of a smooth, reciprocating steel ball sliding on smooth rubber plate by finite element method (FEM).

A generalization of the Becker model in linear viscoelasticity: Creep, relaxation and internal friction

open access: yes, 2018
We present a new rheological model depending on a real parameter $\nu \in [0,1]$ that reduces to the Maxwell body for $\nu=0$ and to the Becker body for $\nu=1$.

Multilayer Soft Photonic Arrays Inspired by Cephalopod Skin for High‐Density, Independent, and Multimodal Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A vertically stacked, DEA‐driven photonic array inspired by cephalopod skin, featuring highly crystalline colloidal crystal gels with vivid color, low FWHM and scalability is presented. The multilayer design removes lateral pixel interference, achieving near‐100% fill factor with fully independent RGB actuation.

Combinatory Models for Predicting the Effective Thermal Conductivity of Frozen and Unfrozen Food Materials

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2010
A model to predict the effective thermal conductivity of heterogeneous materials is proposed based on unit cell approach. The model is combined with four fundamental effective thermal conductivity models (Parallel, Series, Maxwell-Eucken-I, and Maxwell ...

Extended Einstein-Maxwell model

open access: yes, 2007
A self-consistent extended Einstein-Maxwell model for relativistic non-stationary polarizable-magnetizable anisotropic media is presented. Based on the analogy with relativistic extended irreversible (transient) thermodynamics, the extended constitutive equations for the electrodynamics of continua are formulated phenomenologically, the convective ...

Adaptive 4D‐Printed Vascular Stents With Low‐Temperature‐Activated and Intelligent Deployment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microarchitected coronary artery stents were fabricated using a polycaprolactone (PCL)‐based shape memory polymer (SMP) composite via projection micro‐stereolithography (PµSL) 4D printing. By incorporating diethyl phthalate (DEP) as a plasticizer, the thermal transition temperature (Ttran) was modulated to about 37°C, enabling rapid and autonomous ...

Controlling 3D Contractility via Engineered Fibrous Hydrogel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A tunable composite contractile assembly (CCA) is developed that can permit or resist contraction without changing cell‐adhesion and density, unlike collagen whose inherent coupling of these ECM cues limits its use as a platform in contractility studies.

A simple model kinetic equation for inelastic Maxwell particles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The model of inelastic Maxwell particles (IMP) allows one to derive some exact results which show the strong influence of inelasticity on the nonequilibrium properties of a granular gas.
