Specimen‐tailored ‘lived’ climate reveals precipitation onset and amount best predict specimen phenology, but only weakly predict estimated reproduction across a clade

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Herbarium specimens are widely distributed in space and time, thereby capturing diverse conditions. We reconstructed specimen ‘lived’ climate from knowledge of germination cues and collection dates for 14 annual species in the Streptanthus (s.l.) clade (Brassicaceae) to ask: which climate attributes best explain specimen phenological stage and ...

Novel Approach to Inter‐Onset‐Interval Ratio Uncovers Music‐Like Rhythmic Patterns in Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus) Warble Song

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rhythm is an essential part of human music. Recently, there has been a surge of interest in the production of rhythmicity in nonhuman animal vocalizations. Novel methods have found widespread rhythmic behaviors—including those with music‐like properties—among nonhuman animals.

Links between trauma and psychotic symptoms: Integrating cognitive behavioural and neuropsychoanalytic models of psychosis

open access: yesPsychology and Psychotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Cognitive‐behavioural therapy for psychosis (CBTp) achieves small to modest effect sizes, which invites the question, ‘What clinical modifications might improve outcomes?’ This paper proposes an integration of CBTp with a neuropsychoanalytic approach that in clinical practice might extend the gains achieved by CBTp alone.

Genetic Basis of UV Bullseye Size Variations in Turnip Rape (Brassica rapa subsp. oleifera)

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Floral ultraviolet (UV) patterns are visible to bee pollinators and can affect crop yields by impacting pollinator visitation. However, the mechanisms underlying the intraspecific variations of UV bullseye size remain largely unknown. We analyse the ecological consequences and genetic basis of floral UV bullseye size variation in an important ...

On the Practical Necessity of the Categories

open access: yesPhilosophy and Phenomenological Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Kant tells us that we cannot know whether all finite rational beings must share the same forms of sensibility. Can we know whether all finite rational beings must share the same forms of understanding? Recent discussion of this issue has focused on whether Kant thinks this can be decided from the theoretical point of view.
