A Lung‐Immune Dual‐Humanized Mouse Using Cryopreserved Tissue Enables Infection and Immune Profiling of Human Common Cold Coronaviruses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cryopreserved lung‐humanized mice overcome the dependency to fresh tissues and permit head‐to‐head profiling of all four human common cold coronaviruses versus SARS‐CoV‐2 infection; the model validates Paxlovid efficacy against HKU1 and, when coupled with human immune‐system engraftment, enables interrogation of lung‐resident human immunity and HKU1 ...

Prevalence of Extended-spectrum Beta-lactamase (ESBL), Metallo Beta-lactamase (MBL) and Carbapenemase Producing Acinetobacter Species Isolated from Various Clinical Samples in Tertiary Care Hospital

open access: yesJournal of Pure and Applied Microbiology
Acinetobacter is an important nosocomial pathogen causing health care associated infections. It is highly antibiotic resistant gram-negative bacilli. The study was done to determine the prevalence of Acinetobacter species isolated from various clinical ...

Antimicrobial peptide LL-37 and recombinant human mannose-binding lectin express distinct age- and pathogen-specific antimicrobial activity in human newborn cord blood in vitro [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: There is a need to prevent and treat infection in newborns. One approach is administration of antimicrobial proteins and peptides (APPs) such as LL-37, a membrane-active cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide, and mannose-binding lectin (MBL), a ...

Quantum Mutual Information as a Probe for Many-Body Localization

open access: yes, 2016
We demonstrate that the quantum mutual information (QMI) is a useful probe to study many-body localization (MBL). First, we focus on the detection of a metal--insulator transition for two different models, the noninteracting Aubry-Andr\'e-Harper model ...

Antiemesis Corticosteroids Potentiate Checkpoint Blockade Efficacy by Normalizing the Immune Microenvironment in Metastatic Murine Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Corticosteroids improve the efficacy of immune checkpoint blockade therapy in metastatic murine breast cancer. By normalizing the tumor immune microenvironment, corticosteroids reduce immunosuppressive signals, restore T‐cell function, and promote antitumor immune responses, resulting in enhanced tumor control.

Many-body localization phase transition: A simplified strong-randomness approximate renormalization group

open access: yes, 2016
We present a simplified strong-randomness renormalization group (RG) that captures some aspects of the many-body localization (MBL) phase transition in generic disordered one-dimensional systems.

The salivary scavenger and agglutinin binds MBL and regulates the lectin pathway of complement in solution and on surfaces

open access: yesFront. Immun., 2012
The salivary scavenger and agglutinin (SALSA), also known as gp340, salivary agglutinin and deleted in malignant brain tumor 1, is a 340-kDa glycoprotein expressed on mucosal surfaces and secreted into several body fluids.

Evaluation of inhibitor-combination mCIM for detecting MBL-producing Enterobacterales using three MBL inhibitors

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology, 2019
The increase in carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE), including metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) producers, is a severe global health concern. Thus, highly sensitive and specific methods for detecting MBL producers are needed. In this study, we tested the detectability of MBL-producing Enterobacterales against three types of MBL inhibitors (sodium ...

Relationship between gene polymorphisms of mannose‐binding lectin (MBL) and two molecular forms of MBL [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, 2003
Abstract Mannose‐binding lectin (MBL) activates complement through MBL‐associated serine proteases (MASP). A deficiency in MBL due to mutations at exon 1 of the human MBL gene is reported to cause vulnerability to infection. We examined sera of known MBL genotype by gel filtration and assessed their elution patterns using an ELISA for
