A Multidomain Lifestyle Intervention Is Associated With Improved Functional Trajectories and Favorable Changes in Epigenetic Aging Markers in Frail Older Adults: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 2, February 2026.
In frail older adults, a 6‐month lifestyle intervention slowed epigenetic aging and improved functional outcomes, suggesting lifestyle strategies may delay biological aging and disability progression. ABSTRACT Frailty emerges as the intermediate stage preceding disability, but there is a gap in molecular signatures for early detection of subclinical ...

Properties of MDF manufactured with mixtures of wood from paricá plantations and wood waste from native Amazonian species

open access: yesActa Amazonica
Brazil stands out as one of the largest manufacturers of MDF (medium density fiberboard) in the world. The industries are concentrated in the south and southeast of the country and are primarily based on the use of Pinus and Eucalyptus wood, which are ...

Overactivation of Cdc42 GTPase Impairs the Cytotoxic Function of NK Cells From Old Individuals Towards Senescent Fibroblasts

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 2, February 2026.
Unrestrained Cdc42 activity causes failure of cytotoxic function of old NK cells. This is associated with disruption of microtubular network and impaired mitochondrial ATP resulting in reduced conjugation and impaired degranulation of lytic vesicles.

A systematic review of brain health in adults with chronic pain

open access: yesAnaesthesia, Volume 81, Issue 2, Page 248-262, February 2026.
Summary Introduction Recent research has linked chronic pain with an increased risk of clinical dementia diagnosis. Yet structural and functional brain changes associated with chronic pain and their potential role in accelerating brain ageing have not been characterised comprehensively.

Refining Scale Measurement: Reassessing Oral Impacts on Daily Performances Properties With Item Response Theory

open access: yesCommunity Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology, Volume 54, Issue 1, Page 126-132, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Many oral health‐related quality of life instruments have been developed but few have undergone a comprehensive psychometric assessment. One commonly used measure is the Oral Impact on Daily Performance (OIDP). This study revised the configural and metric properties as well as the performance of items based on Item Response Theory ...

Stride‐to‐Stride Fluctuations and Temporal Patterns of Muscle Activity Exhibit a Stronger Relationship in Running‐Induced Fatigue

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Medicine &Science in Sports, Volume 36, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT During gait, the temporal patterns of stride‐to‐stride fluctuations and muscle activation exhibit similar responses. This study examined if increasing task demands such as fatigued high intensity running affects this relationship. Eleven experienced runners completed two 400‐m runs (R1, R2) with a 3‐min break to induce fatigue.

EFFECTS OF TEMPERATURE ON THE BENDING PERFORMANCE OF WOOD-BASED PANELS

open access: yesBioResources, 2012
The effect of temperature in the range from 25 ºC to 175 ºC on the bending performance of plywood and medium density fiberboard (MDF) has been studied with the ultimate purpose of optimizing the post-processing using radio frequency heating and improving

Chemical Evolution of the Carina Dwarf Spheroidal

open access: yes, 2012
We explore a range of chemical evolution models for the Local Group dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxy, Carina. A novel aspect of our work is the removal of the star formation history (SFH) as a `free parameter' in the modeling, making use, instead, of its ...
