Hydrogen‐Assisted Fracture of Iron‐Based Fe–Ni–Al Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Principal relations and fracture mechanisms of single‐phase and precipitate‐strengthened Fe–Ni–Al alloys subjected to prior electrochemical hydrogen charging are identified. The mechanisms of hydrogen effect on strength and microhardness are discussed, including hydrogen‐induced increase in microhardness and the role of hydrogen in fracture behavior ...

Scatter-limited conduction in printed platinum nanofilms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
It is demonstrated that thin platinum films may be deposited onto smooth glass substrates using a materials printer and a propriety organometallic ink.

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Electron mean free path in epitaxial Ta(001) layers

open access: yes, 2013
May 2013School of EngineeringEpitaxial tantalum layers were grown on MgO(001) by ultrahigh vacuum magnetron sputter deposition at 650 °C to thicknesses d ranging from 5 nm to 2 μm.

Transport mean free path for magneto-transverse light diffusion

open access: yes, 2002
We derive an expression for the transport mean free path $\ell^*_\perp$ associated with magneto-transverse light diffusion for a random collection of Faraday-active Mie scatterers.

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

Self-consistent Green's functions calculation of the nucleon mean free path

open access: yes, 2019
The extension of Green’s functions techniques to the complex energy plane provides access to fully dressed quasiparticle properties from a microscopic perspective.

Effect of the Quasiparticle Mean Free Path on Poiseuille Flow in Normal Liquid 3He [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
Direct observations of the effect of quasiparticle mean free path on the hydrodynamics of normal liquid 3He are presented. Both the viscosity and the mean free path are found to vary as T^-2 down to 1.5 mK.

Soft Mechanical‐Electrical Logic Using Liquid Metal‐Filled 3D‐Printed Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present 3D‐printed soft mechanical–electrical logic elements that use liquid metal–filled silicone tubes actuated by thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) architectures to produce Boolean operations. Complementary normally open and normally closed unit cells perform repeatable binary transitions and can be combined into more complex ...
