The impact of courtyard geometry on its mean radiant temperature

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2019
Abstract For hot regions, studies have been advocating re-adopting the courtyard pattern for its thermal advantages. Aiming at developing thermally comfortable courtyards, studies have been exploring the impact of courtyards geometry on their shading and natural ventilation, which are the two environmental principles of courtyards ...

A Simulation Tool for Radiative Heat Exchangers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In order to minimize the large fan power demand from low temperature lift heat pump systems, a radiative heat exchanger is proposed as an indoor heat exchanger design in such systems.

Present and projected future mean radiant temperature for three European cities [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biometeorology, 2017
Present-day and projected future changes in mean radiant temperature, T mrt in one northern, one mid-, and one southern European city (represented by Gothenburg, Frankfurt, and Porto), are presented, and the concept of hot spots is adopted. Air temperature, T a , increased in all cities by 2100, but changes in solar radiation due to changes in ...

The impact of urban geometry on the radiant environment in outdoor spaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Urban geometry, namely the quantitative relationship of building volumes and open spaces (i.e. built density) and their spatial configuration (i.e. urban layout), is a major modifier of urban microclimate.

Investigating transcription factor dynamics in health and disease using FRAP

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FRAP analysis of GFP‐tagged transcription factors reveals how molecular mobility and target engagement change in response to drug treatment. By combining live‐cell imaging, quantitative model fitting, and statistical analysis, this approach uncovers transcription factor dynamics linked to disease mechanisms, providing a powerful framework for ...

‘Super cool roofs’: Mitigating the UHI effect and enhancing urban thermal comfort with high albedo-coated roofs

open access: yesResults in Engineering, 2023
This paper focuses on the impact of three types of roof retrofitting: green, high albedo-coated, also called ‘cool roofs’, and recently developed ‘super cool’ materials—in mitigating the effects of summer urban heat islands (UHI) and enhance overall ...

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.
