Estimation in optimal treatment regimes based on mean residual lifetimes with right‐censored data
Biometrical Journal, 2023AbstractAn optimal individualized treatment regime (ITR) is a decision rule in allocating the best treatment to each patient and, hence, maximizing overall benefits. In this paper, we propose a novel framework based on nonparametric inverse probability weighting (IPW) and augmented inverse probability weighting (AIPW) estimators of the value function ...

Test for Decreasing Mean Residual Lifetimes Based on the Cumulative Residual Renyi’s Entropy
Stochastics and Quality Control, 2022Abstract We introduce a new test for exponentiality against decreasing (increasing) mean residual life alternatives based on a cumulative residual Renyi’s entropy of order α. The exact and asymptotic distributions of the test statistic are given.

A new test for decreasing mean residual lifetimes
Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods, 2018ABSTRACTThe mean residual life of a non negative random variable X with a finite mean is defined by M(t) = E[X − t|X > t] for t ⩾ 0. One model of aging is the decreasing mean residual life (DMRL): M is decreasing (non increasing) in time. It vastly generalizes the more stringent model of increasing failure rate (IFR).

The Mean Residual Lifetime Function
IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1973Necessary and sufficient conditions for a function to be a mean residual lifetime function of a random variable with finite mean are given.

Estimation of Two Ordered Mean Residual Lifetime Functions
Biometrics, 1993In many statistical studies involving failure data, biometric mortality data, and actuarial data, mean residual lifetime (MRL) function is of prime importance. In this paper we introduce the problem of nonparametric estimation of a MRL function on an interval when this function is bounded from below by another such function (known or unknown) on that ...

A bivariate process-based mean residual lifetime model for maintenance and inspection planning
Computers & Industrial Engineering, 2022Abstract In this paper, we present a new performance metric for the reliability analysis of a deteriorating system composed of n parallel subsystems. The explored model outperforms the ordinary mean residual lifetime (MRL) and other state-dependent MRL models in the actual circumstance that it incorporates not only the age factor, but also two basic ...

On the shape of the mean residual lifetime function
Applied Stochastic Models in Business and Industry, 2002AbstractSome general properties of the mean residual life (MRL) function are studied. The analysis is based on the shape of the corresponding failure rate. The conditions under which the failure rate and the reciprocal to the MRL function have asymptotically equivalent behaviour as t→∞ are discussed.

Recruitment and survival time under mean residual lifetime bias sampling
Statistics, 2020There are several situations in which we can assume that an individual with larger mean residual lifetime is more likely to participate in a sample than another with smaller mean residual lifetime;...

On linearly increasing mean residual lifetimes
Journal of Applied Probability, 1978It is shown that the gamma distribution is the unique mixing distribution of exponentials that leads to a linearly increasing mean residual lifetime function. A corollary of this result is that regardless of the mixing process the Pareto distribution is the unique aggregate distribution mixture with this property.
