Accelerating mean time to failure computations [PDF]

open access: yesPerformance Evaluation, 1996
Summary: We consider the problem of numerical computation of the mean time to failure (MTTF) in Markovian dependability and/or performance models. The problem can be cast as a system of linear equations which is solved using an iterative method preserving sparsity of the Markov chain matrix. For highly dependable systems, system failure is a rare event

Challenging the Mean Time to Failure: Measuring Dependability as a Mean Failure Cost

open access: yes2009 42nd Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2009
As a measure of system reliability, the mean time to failure falls short on many fronts: it ignores the variance in stakes among stakeholders; it fails to recognize the structure of complex specifications as the aggregate of overlapping requirements; it fails to recognize that different components of the specification carry different stakes, even for ...

Implementation of the Mean Time to Failure Indicator in the Control of the Logistical Support of the Operation Process

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
The focus of this paper is to identify a method for defining the needs of logistical operational support based on the mean time to failure (MTTF) factor. The research was based on a helicopter intended for flight training. The MTTF indicator for selected

On the estimation of the mean time to failure by simulation

open access: yes2017 Winter Simulation Conference (WSC), 2017
The mean time to failure (MTTF) of a stochastic system is often estimated by simulation. One natural estimator, which we call the direct estimator, simply averages independent and identically distributed copies of simulated times to failure. When the system is regenerative, an alternative approach is based on a ratio representation of the MTTF.

Utility of Restricted Mean Survival Time Analysis for Heart Failure Clinical Trial Evaluation and Interpretation [PDF]

open access: yesJACC: Heart Failure, 2020
OBJECTIVES The study sought to demonstrate the statistical and utilitarian properties of restricted mean survival time (RMST) and restricted mean time lost (RMTL) for assessing treatments for heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction ...

Reliability Assessment of On-Wafer AlGaN/GaN HEMTs: The Impact of Electric Field Stress on the Mean Time to Failure [PDF]

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
We present the mean time to failure (MTTF) of on-wafer AlGaN/GaN HEMTs under two distinct electric field stress conditions. The channel temperature (Tch) of the devices exhibits variability contingent upon the stress voltage and power dissipation ...

On the Generalized Decreasing Mean Time to Failure or Replaced Ordering. [PDF]

open access: yesComput Intell Neurosci, 2021
In this paper, we establish two new stochastic orders, DMTFR (decreasing mean time to failure or replaced) and GDMTFR (generalized decreasing mean time to failure or replaced), and mainly investigate properties of the GDMTFR order. Some characterizations of the GDMTFR order are given.
