Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Effect of AlN Cap Layer on Polarization Coulomb Field Scattering in AlGaN/GaN Heterostructure Field Effect Transistor

open access: yesMicromachines
In this study, AlGaN/GaN heterostructure field-effect transistors (HFETs) with an AlN cap layer and a GaN cap layer were fabricated. The devices were of different sizes. Capacitance–voltage (C-V) and current–voltage (I-V) curves were measured.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Standard Model Precision Electroweak Measurements at HL-LHC and Future Hadron Colliders

open access: yes, 2015
We investigate the uncertainties for current and future measurements of electroweak (EW) parameters at hadron colliders. These include the measurement of the mass of the top quark ($M_T$), the direct measurement of the mass of the W boson ($M_W^{direct}$)

Spatial-frequency feature fusion network for small dataset fine-grained image classification

open access: yesScientific Reports
In the study of small datasets, obtaining training samples from source categories for learning is a challenge in fine-grained image classification. Based on the fact that fine-grained concepts can be learned with very few samples, only a small number of ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Experimental evaluation of non-classical correlations between measurement outcomes and target observable in a quantum measurement

open access: yes, 2015
In general, it is difficult to evaluate measurement errors when the initial and final conditions of the measurement make it impossible to identify the correct value of the target observable.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transition probabilities and measurement statistics of postselected ensembles

open access: yes, 2010
It is well-known that a quantum measurement can enhance the transition probability between two quantum states. Such a measurement operates after preparation of the initial state and before postselecting for the final state.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
