Experimenting with Measurement Error: Techniques with Applications to the Caltech Cohort Study

open access: yesJournal of Political Economy, 2015
Measurement error is ubiquitous in experimental work. It leads to imperfect statistical controls, attenuated estimated effects of elicited behaviors, and biased correlations between characteristics.

Capture of manufacturing uncertainty in turbine blades through probabilistic techniques

open access: yes, 2008
Efficient designing of the turbine blades is critical to the performance of an aircraft engine. An area of significant research interest is the capture of manufacturing uncertainty in the shapes of these turbine blades.

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Adjusting for covariates representing potential confounders, mediators, or competing predictors in the presence of measurement error: Dispelling a potential misapprehension and insights for optimal study design with nutritional epidemiology examples [version 2; peer review: 2 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research
Background Variables such as dietary intake are measured with error yet frequently used in observational epidemiology. Although this limitation is sometimes noted, these variables are still often modeled as covariates without formal correction or sincere

EWMA Chart and Measurement Error [PDF]

open access: yes
Measurement error is a usually met distortion factor in real-world applications that influences the outcome of a process. In this paper, we examine the effect of measurement error on the ability of the EWMA control chart to detect out-of-control ...

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

Incorporating measurement error in n = 1 psychological autoregressive modeling

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2015
Measurement error is omnipresent in psychological data. However, the vast majority of applications of autoregressive time series analyses in psychology do not take measurement error into account.

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.

Kinematics Error Compensation for a Surface Measurement Probe on an Ultra-Precision Turning Machine

open access: yesMicromachines, 2018
In order to enhance the measurement availability for manufacturing applications, on-machine surface measurement (OMSM) is integrated onto the machine tools, which avoids the errors caused by re-positioning workpieces and utilizes the machine axes to ...

Measurement Error in Education and Growth Regressions [PDF]

open access: yes
The perpetual inventory method used for the construction of education data per country leads to systematic measurement error. This paper analyses the effect of this measurement error on GDP regressions.
