Uncertainty of Measurement in Laboratory Medicine [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Biochemistry, 2018
SummaryAn adequate assessment of the measurement uncertainty in a laboratory medicine is one of the most important factors for a reliable interpretation of the results. A large number of standards and guidelines indicate the need for a proper assessment of the uncertainty of measurement results in routine laboratory practice.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Measurement Uncertainty: Relating the uncertainties of physical and virtual measurements

open access: yesCoRR
In the context of industrially mass-manufactured products, quality management is based on physically inspecting a small sample from a large batch and reasoning about the batch's quality conformance. When complementing physical inspections with predictions from machine learning models, it is crucial that the uncertainty of the prediction is known ...

Interrogating the immune landscape of microsatellite stable RAS‐mutated colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
COLOSSUS project RAS‐mutated MSS colon cancer study explored transcriptomics and immune cell density by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoscore (IS), ISIC/TuLIS scores, mutation counts, and detected different prevalences but similar microenvironment composition across immune markers with clinical relevance for future immunotherapy combination ...

Modeling the unified measurement uncertainty of deflectometric and plenoptic 3-D sensors [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sensors and Sensor Systems, 2018
In this paper we propose new models of two complementary optical sensors to obtain 2.5-D measurements of opaque surfaces: a deflectometric and a plenoptic sensor. The deflectometric sensor uses active triangulation and works best on specular surfaces,

Uncertainty as a Fairness Measure

open access: yesJournal of Artificial Intelligence Research
Unfair predictions of machine learning (ML) models impede their broad acceptance in real-world settings. Tackling this arduous challenge first necessitates defining what it means for an ML model to be fair. This has been addressed by the ML community with various measures of fairness that depend on the prediction outcomes of the ML models, either at ...

Measurement Uncertainty in Microbiology [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL, 2003
Abstract Testing laboratories wishing to comply with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:1999 need to estimate uncertainty of measurement for their quantitative methods. Many microbiological laboratories have had procedures available for monitoring variability in duplicate results generated by laboratory analysts for some time.

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Evaluation of single and multiple Doppler lidar techniques to measure complex flow during the XPIA field campaign [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2017
Accurate three-dimensional information of wind flow fields can be an important tool in not only visualizing complex flow but also understanding the underlying physical processes and improving flow modeling. However, a thorough analysis of the measurement
