Is the Voronoi Entropy a True Entropy? Comments on “Entropy, Shannon’s Measure of Information and Boltzmann’s H-Theorem”, Entropy 2017, 19, 48 [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
The goal of this comment note is to express our considerations about the recent paper by A. Ben Naim (Entropy 2017, 19, 48). We strongly support the distinguishing between the Shannon measure of information and the thermodynamic entropy, suggested in the paper.

On directed information theory and Granger causality graphs

open access: yes, 2010
Directed information theory deals with communication channels with feedback. When applied to networks, a natural extension based on causal conditioning is needed.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Comparing Security Notions of Secret Sharing Schemes

open access: yesEntropy, 2015
Different security notions of secret sharing schemes have been proposed by different information measures. Entropies, such as Shannon entropy and min entropy, are frequently used in the setting security notions for secret sharing schemes.

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

The distribution of information for sEMG signals in the rectal cancer treatment process

open access: yes, 2018
The electrical activity of external anal sphincter can be registered with surface electromyography. This signals are known to be highly complex and nonlinear.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

First Principles Calculation of the Entropy of Liquid Aluminum

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
The information required to specify a liquid structure equals, in suitable units, its thermodynamic entropy. Hence, an expansion of the entropy in terms of multi-particle correlation functions can be interpreted as a hierarchy of information measures ...

Entropy, Shannon’s Measure of Information and Boltzmann’s H-Theorem [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
We start with a clear distinction between Shannon’s Measure of Information (SMI) and the Thermodynamic Entropy. The first is defined on any probability distribution; and therefore it is a very general concept. On the other hand Entropy is defined on a very special set of distributions. Next we show that the Shannon Measure of Information (SMI) provides
