Measuring the phagocytic activity of cells
2015Phagocytosis is a critical biological activity through which the host can protect itself from infectious and non-infectious environmental particles and remove unwanted host cells in order to maintain tissue homeostasis. Phagocytosis is an ancient, conserved process that is apparent in all multicellular organisms.

Measurement of Cell-Mediated Immunity
New England Journal of Medicine, 1972The recent awareness of medical practitioners concerning the role of immunologic mechanisms in disease has rendered the development and availability of relevant new technics important. In particular, the last decade has seen the creation of several new methods for studying cell-mediated immunity (CMI), the mechanism implicated in chronic intracellular ...

Measurements of Cell Death in Neuronal and Glial Cells
2011During brain development, cell death is a physiological process which allows the elimination of cells produced in excess. During adulthood, when there is no or little physiologic cell death, an increase in cell loss is usually caused by neurologic disorders or by exposure to neurotoxic chemicals.

A versatile cell detector for cell volume measurements
Medical & Biological Engineering, 1970An electronic cell detector which provides good cell volume distribution is described. Consideration has been given to bandwidth and input noise with respect to aperture size and resistance. The instrument uses a low noise current pre-amplifier, and switched upper and lower bandwidth providing an overall response time of 5 μsec.

[57] Measurement of cell-cell interactions
1974Publisher Summary The assays described in this chapter are kinetic and are aimed at measuring the first detectable events that occur in a population of single cells. Adhesion is defined as the rate of attachment or of adsorption of single ceils to other surfaces.
