Nobody Wants to Eat Them Alive:” Ethical Dilemmas and Dual Media Narratives on Domestic Rabbits as Pets and Commodity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Using semiotic analysis, this study explores changes occurring in the societal perception of rabbits as farm animals as juxtaposed to their increasing popularity as domestic companions.

Self‐Powered Flexible Triboelectric‐Gated Ion‐Gel Transistor for Neuromorphic Tactile Sensing and Human Activity Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A fully flexible ion‐gel‐gated graphene‐channel transistor driven by a triboelectric nanogenerator enables self‐powered tactile sensing and synaptic learning. Mimicking spike‐rate‐dependent plasticity, the device exhibits frequency‐selective potentiation and depression, supporting rate‐coded neuromorphic computation even under flex.

Organic pig production – With particular reference to Danish production conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
While there is a markedly growth in organically farmed land and in the organic food sector as such in Europe and North America, the organic pig sector has not developed correspondingly in most countries.

Process redesign for effective use of product quality information in meat chains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
To fulfil segmented consumer demand and add value, meat processors seek to exploit quality differences in meat products. Availability of product quality information is of key importance for this.

"Food Ethics and Religion" [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
How does an engagement with religious traditions (broadly construed) illuminate and complicate the task of thinking through the ethics of eating? In this introduction, we survey some of the many food ethical issues that arise within various religious ...

PLANT-BASED MEAT: A SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE TO MEAT

open access: yesGıda
Due to the increase in the world population, the amount of meat used in human consumption has also increased in recent years. On the other hand, it is clear that animal-based meat production cannot sustain this growth and results in more pollution, land and water use, greenhouse gas emissions and biodiversity loss than the pollution occurring in plant ...

Unlocking the Full Potential of Zinc Oxide/Cerium Oxide Composite Nanoparticles for Removal of Mixed Pharmaceutical and Dye Pollutants in Water

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
ZnO/CeO2 composite nanoparticles synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method simultaneously degrade ciprofloxacin, tetracycline, methylene blue, and methyl orange in a four‐component mixture under UV irradiation. The Ce3+/Ce4+ redox cycling and oxygen vacancies at the ZnO/CeO2 interface suppress charge recombination and enhance reactive species ...

Alternative proteins; A path to sustainable diets and environment

open access: yesCurrent Research in Food Science
With a growing global population and the resulting pressure on natural resources, the supply of high-value protein has become increasingly limited. The rise of environmental and ethical concerns has led to the emergence of meat analogues as a credible ...

Ductility Tuning via Cluster Network Characteristics of Porous Components

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Network optimization via cluster characteristics induced by interaction of stress concentration is proposed, demonstrating increased cluster size and dispersion in non‐uniform porous components. The optimized structures exhibit, for the first time, that enhanced ductility and damage progression is controllable through zigzag cluster network designed by
