The Mechanism of Cutting in Electrosurgery
IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 1975A detailed analysis shows how electrosurgical r-f power is localized in the vicinity of the cutting electrode. This localization requires a small radius of curvature for the surgical tip, relatively high r-f voltages, and rapid surgical tip motion.

On the Mechanics of Tapping by Cutting
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1977The mechanics of the tapping process by cutting have been investigated by means of a mathematical model that predicts the magnitude of torque and the parameters that influence torque variation. The analysis is based on an extension of the plane deformation model developed by Armarego for triangular groove cutting.

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1972
Abstract The failure process in rock cutting is observed and the formation of a recompacted crushed zone which sticks to the rake face of the cutting tool and acts as ‘the built-up edge’ in metal cutting is described. Based on observation of the process of rock cutting and some simplifying assumptions a theory is developed on the mechanics of rock ...

In this chapter, a mechanical model is developed for cutting dynamics caused by coupled interactions among the tool-piece, work-piece, and chip during the complex cutting operation. Four regions are used to describe four distinct cutting processes. The switching from one motion to another in the adjacent region is to characterize the specific tool ...

The mechanics of bandsaw cutting
Holz als Roh- und Werkstoff, 1997A numerical model, developed in Part I of this paper, is used to investigate the effect of band saw variables on cutting accuracy. The effect of blade parameters upon tooth tip stiffness is examined and the response of a blade cutting through an idealized knot is considered in detail. In particular, the effect of side clearance is examined.

The mechanism of ultrasonic cutting
Ultrasonics, 1965Abstract In spite of the fact that ultrasonic machining has been widely used in industry, the mechanism of the process is far from being clear. This paper contains the results of the theoretical and experimental investigations into the physics of ultrasonic cutting carried out in the Acoustics Institute of the U.S.S.R.

Aspects in Cutting Mechanism in High Speed Cutting
CIRP Annals, 1989Summary Since appr. 10 years the researches on high speed cutting (hsc) are one of the scientific key points of the Institute of Cutting Technology and Machine Tools (ITW) of the Technical University of Darmstadt. One of the essential results is the fact that just known cutting mechanisms in normal speeds are also valid for hsc.

Mechanically cut mitotic spindles: clean cuts and stable microtubules
Journal of Cell Science, 1989ABSTRACT We have discovered an easy way to cut through the mitotic spindle at any desired place. Spindles of demembranated cricket or grasshopper spermatocytes were severed with a microneedle between the chromosomes and one pole, and the cut-off polar piece was swept away.

Epidural catheter cutting: mechanisms and management
Journal of Clinical Anesthesia, 2017To the Editor, Epidural catheter insertion can be followed by different complications appearing at its insertion, maintenance and removal. They can be distinguished in haemorrhagic, infectious and mechanical, when directly involving the device with different mechanisms: obstruction, kinking, knotting, displacement, migration, and breakage, or more ...
