Brainstem mechanisms underlying feeding behaviors
Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 1998The essential elements controlling trigeminal motoneurons during feeding lie between the trigeminal and facial motor nuclei. These include populations of neurons in the medial reticular formation and pre-motoneurons in the lateral brainstem that reorganize to generate various patterns.

Mechanical Behavior of the Sclera
Ophthalmologica, 1986Induced deformations, similar to the posterior pole deformations due to advanced myopia, were studied in a series of 30 rabbits. The induced deformations were produced by means of a specially designed cup. An analysis of the applicability of the shell theory is made, and it is concluded that the thin shell theory is applicable to the mechanical study ...

Abstract The mechanical behavior of a material, in the most practical sense, is how it deforms or breaks under load; in other words, how it responds when stressed. This chapter provides a brief review of the properties associated with mechanical behavior, including stress, strain, elasticity, plastic deformation, ductility, hardness ...

Benzodiazepines: behavioral and neurochemical mechanisms
American Journal of Psychiatry, 1977The therapeutic effects of benzodiazepines in psychoneurosis may depend in part on their ability to release or disinhibit a patient's anxiety-suppressed gratification-seeking behavior. Benzodiazepines may disinhibit behavior by reducing the activity of serotonin (and possibly acetylcholine) neurons in the brain's "punishment" system.

Central Cholinergic Mechanism and Behavior
1971Publisher Summary This chapter discusses central cholinergic mechanism functions and behaviors. It presents data that establishes acetylcholine (ACh) as a central neurotransmitter and its role in the elicitation and maintenance of behavior. The chapter also highlights the role of the central adrenergic and serotonergic mechanisms to demonstrate and ...

Mechanical Deformation Behavior
1994The correlation between applied mechanical load and resulting deformation is described by moduli. The basic component of moduli is controlled by binding forces, originating from deformations of the electron configurations. The load acts against the binding forces. This component reacts nearly immediately and is responsible for the elastic behavior.

Behavioral economics has expanded the set of models that researchers in economic design can look at. At the same time, it presents new complications in design of mechanisms. I briefly outline some of the potential challenges in establishing foundational results in the behavioral mechanism design framework.

Neural mechanisms for hedonistic behavior
The Bulletin of Mathematical Biophysics, 1949Some neural mechanisms are described which interpret neurobiophysically the determination of the behavior of an individual by the maximizing of his satisfaction, or pleasure.

Mechanical Behavior of Filled Rubbers
2014Rubbers are highly deformable and recoverable soft materials. Only the rubber materials can show such “rubber elasticity,” and no alternative is available. High mechanical strength is required, in addition to the rubber elasticity, for industrial products such as automotive tire, seismic isolation bearing, and automotive engine mount.
